DOWNRIVER

Bridge to Asia April 22, 2016

This program is designed to educate the community about the diversity of Asian cultures while promoting educational opportunities at WCCCD. Bridge to Asia will showcase the beauty of Asia, providing performances by musicians and dancers and also allow participants to visit educational marketplace booths depicting the life and culture of eight diverse Asian countries.

Let's Get Fit April 11, 2017

This program strives to get the community involved to promote a healthy lifestyle and fun physical activities including being active in the community, in school and with family. This program will engage participants with cardiovascular activities, dieting and exercise.

EASTERN

College Week April 2017

The Eastern Campus will partner with 25 colleges and universities for a three day college fair. This program will offer information on various programs and transfer opportunities for WCCCD students and local high school seniors.

NORTHWEST

Flower Bonanza March 25, 2017

Your garden can be a burst of continual color from early Spring to late Fall! This seminar will help you become a master gardener. Participants will learn garden planning, how to select and plan a variety of flowers, and garden arrangements according to seasonal blooms.

Juvenile Diabetes Conference May 13, 2017

The Western Campus in partnership with Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) will host the tenth annual Type 1 Diabetes Conference. Key note presentations from physicians, researchers and health care professionals will be present.

The School of Continuing Education provides high quality, accessible programs and services in response to community needs. Our programs are offered as lifelong learning opportunities for individuals who want to enrich their cultural experiences, enhance their professional or occupational skills. Courses are available during the day, evening, weekend and on-line.

Our lifelong learning courses encompass a wide range of activities and interests, such as: arts and crafts, personal enhancement, health, physical fitness and sports, performing arts and global awareness. Additional educational opportunities include specialized courses that fulfill state licensing and professional certification requirements and computer technology training.

Youth development is a special focus area for the School. Among our programs are the Kids' College, summer camps, career exposure and the youth enhancement series. These classes are designed to be fun-filled, academically challenging and enriching. Continuing Education specializes in providing Short-Term Certificate programs that offer new training opportunities based on the changing economy and the need for retraining and skill building. Such offerings include Advanced Computer Technology, Human Resources Specialist, Computerized Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Grant Writing, Grant Management, Office Support Specialist, and Non-Profit Management.

Residential Wiring NEW

Certificate

The Residential Wiring Certificate program is designed to provide electrical apprentices, electrical journeyman, master electricians and contractors with the essential aspects of the National Electrical Code and Michigan Residential Code that apply to residential construction and repairs. Electrical devices and equipment appropriate for residential applications and their associated wiring methods are explained. The method of instruction is classroom lecture utilizing PowerPoint. Students need to have at least one year of experience working in the electrical trade. Students are also required to register for and pass all three classes to receive the program certificate.

REQUIREMENTS: Black & Decker Advanced Home Wiring, Updated 4th Edition, 2014 National Electric Code book, and a non-programmable scientif ic calculator.

Tuesdays - 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

FEE: $125.00 per course

Basic Residential Wiring

Participants will learn the history of residential wiring, obtain a perspective from an electrical inspector, and learn the basic components of residential wiring. Course #: BCHI5005 CRN: 42069 Date: 1/17/172/14/17

Branch Circuit Requirements

Participants will learn the National Electrical Code and Michigan Residential Code requirements for branch circuit devices, equipment and wiring methods. Course #: BCHI5006 CRN: 42070 Date: 2/21/173/21/17

From Branch Circuits to Service

The student will apply the knowledge obtained in Parts 1 & 2 to properly size the branch circuits and service and be familiar with the components and installation requirements of the electrical service. Course #: BCHI5007 CRN: 42071 Date: 3/28/175/2/17

Performer's Expo March 4, 2017

The District's Heinz C. Prechter Educa onal and Performing Arts Center will host the Sixth Annual Performer's Expo in February. Performers will be given the opportunity to perform in front of Detroitarea talentbuyers from various venues and fes vals. The performances are open to the public. In addi on, an educa onal workshop for performers will be conducted by NKSK Events.

Passport to Africa March 11, 2017

Passport to Africa provides a day of educa onal and cultural enrichment ac vi es. Par cipants will have an opportunity to explore the history, countries, cultures and diversity of the African Con nent.

Eastern Campus

African Explosion February 2017

Students, staff and faculty will dress in African a re represen ng Black History Month. Tradi onal Liberian foods, music, and an African dance ensemble performed by the campus staff will be part of the days event. In closing the campus staff, students and faculty will perform the Liberian "Grand March" dance.

Northwest Campus

STEM Literacy Fair TBD

This seminar is designed to bridge the digital divide, to take the fear out of using technical devises in everyday living, and to inspire par cipants to become "high tech savvy" with ease. Professionals in the field will facilitate presenta ons, demonstra ons, and par cipate in interac ve breakout sessions. Vendor informa onal displays from several different local businesses, organiza ons and agencies will further illustrate the benefits of technology.

Western Campus

Au sm Awareness Conference March 2017

In partnership with the Au sm Alliance of Michigan (AAOM), this conference will explore the classifica ons characteris cs and causes of Au sm Spectrum Disorders. The early warnings signs will be discussed along with early interven on and treatment informa on.

Par cipants will explore the impact that Au sm has on the development of children growing into adulthood.
