Liberty Harbor Cruise to dock at Governors Island

New York, NY – Area residents and visitors alike will have a new way to explore New York Harbor, thanks to the new Liberty Harbor Cruise offered by Statue Cruises, the ferry operator for the Stature of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island. The 90-minute tour will include a narration about the sights of the harbor and its environs, as well as provide compelling historical background and some little-known facts of the areaabout one of the world’s most renowned harbors.

Linda Neal, superintendent of Governors Island National Monument, said “We are excited to work with Statue Cruises to showcase Governors Island as a wonderful harbor attraction and to introduce people to the island’s amazing history and spectacular city and harbor views. We’re especially happy to begin to connect the history and stories of our sister parks – Castle Clinton National Monument, Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island, which visitors can view from the Liberty Harbor Cruise.”

On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays starting June 6July 11, cruise participants will also have the option to disembark at Governors Island so they can explore the Governorsi Island and itsthe Nnational Mmonument, which includes 1812-era Fort Jay and Castle Williams , and experience their rich history before. Visitors who disembark on the island can return returning to Manhattan free of charge on the regularly scheduled Governors Island ferry.

There are so many stories to be told through the historic sites throughout the National Parks of New York Harbor. National Park Service Rangers will meet arriving passengers at the dock for a brief orientation and offer then take visitors on a guided tours or direct visitors them to other island activities, which include depending upon the weekend will include artistic performances, Living History weekends, concerts and historic battle re-enactments or special festivals throughout the Ssummer. What: Liberty Harbor Cruise – America’s Freedom Tour

When: Docks at Governors Island Fridays, Saturday and Sundays – June 6July 11 through

Sept. 1Oct. 4. The cruises will , which leave Battery Park at 11 a.m. and

12:30 p.m. and land will dock at Governors Island at 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. respectively.

Governors Island National Monument was established by Presidential Proclamation on February 7, in 2003, to for the purpose of preserveing and protecting the island’s historically significant military fortifications, Castle Williams and Fort Jay.
