Literacy Specialist

Action for Children

As an employee of Action for Children, the Early Literacy Specialist works in collaboration with Learn4Life Columbus and Learning Circle Education Services to implement the READY 4 SUCCESS initiative. READY 4 SUCCESS was launched to help early learning centers support continuous improvement and data driven decision-making through a shared plan for common outcome measurement, data alignment, and reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Early Literacy Specialist will:

• Serve as liaison with and provide coaching & technical assistance to early education and care programs participating in READY 4 SUCCESS

• Consult on a regular basis with key early reading faculty from the Children’s Learning Research Collaborative in an effort to maintain knowledge of current research, effective practices for children and adults, and identify emerging trends

• Provide oversight and coordination of volunteers, ensuring completion of all required paperwork, processes, and training prior to volunteer assignment

• Collect and maintain all types of documentation and data related to the program

• Enter and analyze data to identify patterns in program performance

• Prepare written reports

• Provide oversight of all aspects of the test administration process and protocols

• Work with various program sites to: coordinate test administrator schedule, and to collect parent release forms as well as child rosters of participating children

• Work with partner organizations to develop program reports

• Meet with program to deliver report results and assist in developing and implementing a continuous improvement plan

Qualifications

• Master in Early Childhood Education, with an emphasis on language and early literacy development, OR

• Early childhood education/elementary education degree with the addition of a reading certificate; plus 5 years of experience teaching preschool aged children

• 3-5 years experience in supervision and/or teaching of adults

• Knowledge of Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards; Third Grade Reading Guarantee; early education assessment research; and Ohio’s Kindergarten Readiness Assessment - Literacy
