Electronic databases collect material from a number of sources, including peer reviewed journals. The Research Library subscribes to a number of individual journals, some of which are included in ERIC. However, ERIC also provides access to many other journals and sources. These include special education journals that have occasional articles of interest to Perkins staff, but not enough to justify an ongoing subscription. Through a state agreement, our account also includes access to the Boston Globe. It includes the current issue of the paper. How current is the content? Some journals provide access to current issues through ERIC, others have a rolling embargo that means the most recent issues (usually the past one to three years) are not available through ERIC. Abstracts of these recent articles are often included in ERIC, so it can be much faster to do a search in ERIC and then locate specific articles than to search multiple sources. You can find out the specifics for a particular journal by looking in the Publications section of ERIC, where you can search or browse for a specific journal title. What if I find an article, but ERIC does not have the full text?I can make a request for you from another library that has the article. (This is an interlibrary loan or ILL request.) To make an ILL request, please email jennifer.arnott@ with the citation for the article you’d like. You can include the information in the email, or send me a link to where you found it in ERIC. Articles often are available very quickly. How accessible is the site? ProQuest, the provider of the database, makes extensive information about accessibility available. If you have questions about a particular aspect or have problems, please let Jennifer Arnott know, and she can follow up with them. Where can I get more help? Please feel free to set up an appointment, and we can show you how to use the database (it will take 20-30 minutes to get a feel for how the database works.)We are also glad to arrange larger training sessions if there is interest. ................
