Welcome to Team 6-1
Welcome to Team 6-1!
Dear Parent/Guardian:
We are delighted to have your child on our team this year. Your child will face many new responsibilities as a middle school student. We will do our part to help your student have a successful transition from elementary school by providing a positive learning environment, encouraging cooperation among classmates, and maintaining close contact with you.
As a parent, you can help by encouraging your child to do his or her best in all things. Also, encourage your child to act responsibly. We have set high standards for our students. We believe in providing a comfortable, yet orderly, atmosphere for learning. To ensure this for all students, we have implemented the expectations listed below:
1. Follow directions the first time they are given.
2. Have materials ready when class begins: this includes iPad being charged
3. Stay in your assigned work area.
4. Talk only with permission.
5. Respect yourself and others.
6. Be kind with your words and actions.
Students who comply with the expectations for our team will receive verbal praise, the opportunity to visit the canteen, and quarterly incentives. However, choosing not to follow these expectations will result in the following:
Warning (verbal or written)
Lunch Detention- 10 minutes (after five, student receives administrative silent lunch)
Behavior Intervention/ parent contact
Office Referral
**We reserve the right to skip steps in the consequences above based on the offense**
Each student is responsible for having needed materials for class each day. Materials include iPad (charged), subject area notebook, loose- leaf paper, pencils, textbook, reading materials and other special materials.
Homework will be assigned daily in some subject areas as necessary. Students are required to complete all homework assignments each night and bring them to class the next day. Students who do not have their homework completed at the beginning of class will be required to complete the missing homework assignment during working lunch. Students are required to copy all homework assignments from the board into their agenda. Parents are asked to check the agenda daily for assignments and/or comments from the teachers. We strongly encourage students to purchase an agenda.
Parents can check homework assignments daily by using the team website. This can be found on either the Sullivan Middle School website under “Faculty and Staff”, “6th Grade Teachers”, “Team 6-1”, or use this link to go directly to the webpage:
iRock 1:1 and iPad usage
Students will be expected to have iPads with them at all times. This will be like any other classroom material they are required to have in class. If students are not taking iPads home they will be leaving them with their Falcon Time teacher at the end of the school day. It is extremely important that your child charge their iPad before they come to school. Students will be using iPads daily to gather homework, refer to notes, projects, apps, etc, so having a fully charged iPad to start the day will help ensure their ability to use their device effectively. We have a set of rules as well as consequences in place that are listed below. Please read through and go over them with your child to safeguard the iPad’s proper use.
Rules:
1. Students will stay on the app, task or site that is being used for instruction.
2. Students will only use iPad for educational purposes.
3. Students will use the iPad carefully and not cause damage intentionally.
Consequences:
1st offense- warning
2nd offense- lunch detention and loss of iPad for remainder of class period
3rd offense- parent contact and loss of iPad for the remainder of the day
4th offense- parent contact and indefinite loss of iPad use until parent/teacher conference with administration is held
**We reserve the right to skip steps in the consequences above based on the offense**
