[Pages:98]Summer Reading & Math Packet Students Entering Kindergarten

Coming to Kindergarten!

The supplies brought to school at the beginning of the year will be shared between all the students.

Encourage your child to build their stamina while completing the given activities. This will help with build their task persistence and prepare for independent work.

Children in kindergarten are more successful when they are able to work independently with the following tasks: Taking coats/ jackets on and off. Using the restroom. Opening and closing lunch containers (i.e. milk cartons, yogurt, string cheese, tupperware, etc.) Tying shoes (velcro shoes are a great option for those students still learning how to tie their shoes). Practicing proper hygiene (i.e. blowing nose, coughing into elbow, etc.)

Because there is much to learn in kindergarten, we will not have time for naps. If you haven't already, please start weaning your child off their naptime. This will help with the transition into kindergarten. Students should have between 10-12 hours of sleep each night.

Included in this packet are several things that you child can practice over the summer to prepare for kindergarten. This includes: Handwriting Cutting Kindergarten sight words Your child should also practice letters/sounds and writing/recognizing numbers 0-10

If you have reservations about whether your child is ready for kindergarten, please feel free to schedule an appointment to observe a kindergarten classroom in action.
