Reporting Period: December 1, 2019 – November 30, 2020

Employment Unit: WINY (AM) Putnam, CT

WINY is a stand alone AM-daytime station which operate with a staff of fewer than 5 FT Employees. WINY will recruit widely throughout the community to fill its 5th or greater FT employment vacancies. Recruitment was not necessary during the above period for a full-time position at WINY.

The employment unit completed the following supplemental recruitment initiatives during the reporting period.

Student Internship-

Two days per week during the academic year, the WINY Morning Show hosts a student interns from local high schools, broadcasting schools and colleges. Interns learn broadcasting skills, greet guests, edit and read entertainment reports and school-related news stories. Once the shut down began we had to suspend all internships at the station.

Student Externship – Eastern Connecticut State University

A student from Eastern needed to acquire 120 hours of internship for course credit. From December 16-January 14th. She learned on-air, office work as well as production.

Afternoon Show Internship

December 1, 2019-Present (once in-studio guests are allowed again) – A student from Horizons in Willimantic interns on the WINY Afternoon Show on Friday afternoons as his work program allows. He participates in the on-air segments, learns about broadcasting as well as learning some job coaching skills for any employment in the future.

Sports Department Internship – October – November 2019

A graduate interested in Sports interned with our Sports Director out in the field for local game broadcasts. The intern would gather stats, retrieve players and coaches off the field for interviews as well as learn the technical end of a sports broadcast.

Job Fair/Career Day/Tech Class

November 24, 2020 ~ WINY President/Owner Gary Osbrey participated in the Killingly High School Career Pathways Program via google video where he spoke to 8 students and 2 faculty members about careers in broadcasting and how he started and eventually owned the radio station.

TOURS/STATION VISITS

Unfortunately Tours were suspended due to the Covid-19 this year at the radio station.
