Tonight, is our annual COURSE FAIR. from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.? We will begin at 6 pm when we host all of our incoming students and their parents in the auditorium for a 25-minute meeting. Everyone will then be released to see all groups that are set up around the campus.? The purpose of the Course Fair is to highlight all of the courses and activities MAC has to offer for our students. There will be representatives for every content area and activity. You do not want to miss this opportunity to be a part of the planning of your child’s education and future. I want to remind you that, at the beginning of this semester, we held Behavioral Expectation Meetings. We met with all of our students, by grade level, to review all of the expectations. This was done at the beginning of the year, but we know that students often forget by this time, or there are myths that start popping up. For example, “we don’t have to have clear backpacks”, or “you can wear hats in the spring”. This is the opportunity we take to refresh our kid’s memories, and ensure they know what is expected of them. You may want to ask your child about what we covered and remind them of the expectations, including clear backpacks, and especially vaping and THC, which is covered below. I want to thank you all for your support as we prepare to enter the second month of this semester. As always, remember that what we do together is always greater than what we do alone. Students who are currently ineligible and pass all of their classes will regain eligibility at 4:15 pm Friday, January 31st. The progress reports are available online through family access and student access.? If a parent does not have a family access account, they can also get the report through their child’s student access account. Parents needing help can call the NEISD Help Desk. Parents who request a paper copy will have one made available. Here is all the news for the week:ANNOUNCEMENTS-SCHOOL REPORT CARD – The 2018-19 School Report Card (SRC) is now available from the Texas Education Agency. It is available to the parent or guardian of every child enrolled in a Texas public school. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures. Attached is a letter with information on the School Report Card, as well as how to access the report. If you would like a paper copy of this letter, please let us know and we can make one available to you.COURSE FAIR - Our Course?Fair?is scheduled tonight, Monday, January 27th?from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.? This scholarship is for seniors who will be attending college with the intention of pursuing a major in education. BACKPACKS – We are pleased to let you know that the majority of our students have been diligent in complying with the clear backpack policy. We thank you for your support. Please remember that this policy has not changed, and students are only allowed to carry clear backpacks. Mesh backpacks, semi-transparent or other types of backpacks are not approved. They must be clear backpacks. Non-clear backpacks will be taken up. Remember, Clear Backpack, or No Backpack! TOBACCO/THC/VAPE PRODUCTS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY – Vaping has become epidemic with our teens. It is something we address on almost a daily basis. In addition to our concern over the health risks this behavior poses, we have seen a number of students expelled for the possession or use of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the principal psychoactive ingredient in marijuana). We want to reiterate that possession or use of THC on campus will result in a recommendation for expulsion for students who are found to be vaping THC or have THC in their possession. This strong stand is imperative not only to remain compliant with state law and the North East ISD Student Code of Conduct, but also to help to deter a behavior that is endangering our students. Regardless of personal opinions on this issue, possession and use of e-cigarettes/vaping devices remains illegal under state law for persons under 18. All devices, oils, and other paraphernalia are explicitly prohibited by the North East ISD Student Code of Conduct for students of all ages. Confiscated devices, cartridges and oils will be subject to immediate on-campus chemical testing. Students who are in possession of any item which tests positively for THC will be recommended for expulsion as such possession is a state jail felony. Note that possessing or being under the influence of any controlled substance as detailed above can also result in separate criminal penalties as determined by law enforcement.For the safety and wellbeing of our children, please help us to reinforce the serious safety and disciplinary consequences, which can result from vaping. This was another tough game for our Lady Brahmas. Once again, our Lady Brahmas never stopped fighting. Unfortunately, they could not overcome the Rattlers as they took a big loss. On Saturday, our Lady Brahmas were back at MAC facing off with LEE. Our Lady Brahmas fought hard and put up some great offensive numbers. However, they could not overcome LEE in the latter part of the game as they took an 11-point loss. This Wednesday, our Lady Brahmas will return to BAC to take on Roosevelt at 6:30 pm. Then on Friday, they will travel to South San to take on the Lady Bobcats at 7 pm. Our Lady Brahmas still need our support, so please come on out and cheer them on! Go Lady Brahma Basketball!!BOYS’ – This past Wednesday, our Brahmas were at BAC facing off with Reagan. Our Brahmas played hard for the entire game. They held Reagan to a 4-point lead at the half. It was a close game all the way through the second half. Our boys held their own but took a close loss to Reagan. On Friday the Brahmas were back at MAC to take on LEE. The Brahmas were fired up after their loss on Wednesday. LEE came out strong in the first quarter, but our Brahmas came back in the second quarter to take an 18 to 16 lead at the half. In the second half our Brahmas dominated, to take the 41 to 32 win over LEE! This next Tuesday, our Brahmas will be at BAC at 7 pm to take on Reagan. Then on Friday, they will take on LEE at 7:30 pm right here at MAC. You need to come on out and support our Brahmas as they continue their district run. This Wednesday our Brahmas will be back at BAC at 6:30 to take on Roosevelt. Then on Friday they will be back at MAC again to go head to head with South San at 7:30 pm. Go Brahma Basketball!MAC SOCCER – GIRLS – This past Tuesday, our Lady Brahmas played their final non-district game against Smithson Valley. It was a very rough game!? Our Brahmas gave their best, but they lost a tough one to Smithson Valley.? Both Reyna Stovall and Laura Foran battled to guard the goal, but our strong offensive game overcame our defense allowing them to score. ? Our Lady Brahmas are now looking to come back next week, ready for district.?This Tuesday at 5 pm, our Lady Brahmas will play their first district game against Roosevelt at BAC-West. Our Brahmas took control early and held off the Hornets throughout the game. Bode Bleamaster had 1 Goal and 1 assist. Miguel Martinez also had 1 Goal and 1 assist. Jose Smeke had 8 saves with 80 minutes played and 0 goals scored against him, as the Brahmas took the win over East Central 2 to 0. This Tuesday the Brahmas will be open district play at 7 pm against Roosevelt at BAC-West. Then on Friday they will travel to South San to take on the Bobcats at 5 pm. Go Brahma Soccer!!MAC AQUATICS - MAC Swimmers & Diver competed at the UIL 27-6A District meet this past Friday 1/24 & Saturday, 1/25. Athletes competed in individual and relay events in hopes of placing in the TOP 6, advancing them to the Regional competition. Overall, our Lady Brahmas placed 4th as a team, and our Brahma Boys placed 5th. Combined, the team finished 5th overall – just ONE-point shy of a 4th place team finish! In total we saw 67 lifetime best times achieved and some huge time drops, bringing our total lifetime best times to 430 for the season! Congratulations to our “Swimmers of the Meet”, Belen Gonzalez & Colby Mask for their excellence in racing, sportsmanship, and hard work! Way to go Brahmas! It was an exciting year for our Girls team as they raced to a 3rd place finish, and bronze medal, in TWO relays! A feat that has not been achieved since 2007!! Congratulations to Nalani Lambert, Rylee Cardon, Alissa Murphy, & Belen Gonzalez for this great accomplishment in both the 200 Medley Relay & 200 Free Relay. In addition, our Girls 400 Free Relay of Sarah Ramos, Alyson Gutierrez, Ciara Cardon, & Haley Donato dropped 12 seconds from their time, securing a 5th place finish and advancing the team to Regionals. Not to be outdone, on the individual side Nalani Lambert swam her way to Regionals in the 200 Individual Medley with a 5th place finish going a lifetime best by over 2 seconds, as well as a 4th place finish in the 100 Back, also going a lifetime best, and just .18 seconds from the medal stand! Belen Gonzalez is also moving onto Regionals with her excellent race in the 500 Free, placing 5th! Rylee Cardon narrowly missed moving onto Regionals with her 7th place finish in the 100 Breast, a lifetime best for her, while freshman Ciara Cardon did a fantastic job going her lifetime best in the 500 Free to place 8th overall. Way to go Lady Brahmas! On the boy’s side, we saw a brand-new line-up from guys after graduating 6 seniors last year. Leading the way was veteran, Colby Mask who swam to a lifetime best in the 100 Breast with a solid 4th place finish, narrowly missing a silver medal by only 2 tenths of a second! Colby also split a 27.47 in the 200 Medley Relay, the fastest breaststroke relay split in 9 years! The medley relay of Sean Kuper, Colby Mask, Wyatt Kenny, & Kyle Roach-Compton dropped 3 seconds from their time, placing 5th and advancing to Regionals. The Boy’s 200 Free Relay of Nate Donaho, Colby Mask, Dylan Harris, & Wyatt Kenny dropped 7 seconds from their time, placing 5th and advancing to Regionals. Our Diver, Jack Chisholm placed 4th overall, advancing him to Regionals, and also scoring points for our boys’ team! Wrapping it up for the boys, was the 400 Free Relay of Nate Donaho, Dylan Harris, Colby Mask, & Wyatt Kenny dropped 12 seconds from their seed time, placing 7th overall. We recently installed a Holocaust exhibit in the library that will be available through spring break. It consists of two displays; one covers the ten stages of genocide, the second is a Voices of the Holocaust exhibit featuring video testimonials. Some teachers are offering extra credit for written reflections on the exhibit. We have written reflections slips available upon request at the library circulation desk. In addition to the exhibit, we have also created a book display in the library from which students are welcome to check out books.Holocaust Survivor Visit: We will be hosting an evening event featuring Holocaust Survivor Rose Sherman Williams. When Rose Sherman Williams was just twelve years old, the Nazis invaded her hometown in Poland. Subject to the ravages of World War II and the dehumanization of Polish Jews by the Nazis, each day was a fight for survival. As a teenager, she fought the effects oppression and depression for six years. She endured physical beatings, starvation, and transfers from one labor camp to another. In 1944, having been deported to the notorious Auschwitz extermination camp, she had a bizarre encounter with the Angel of Death, Dr. Josef Mengele, himself. A death march ultimately led her to one of the most despicable camps of all: Bergen-Belsen. Miraculously, she survived to be liberated. Now in her nineties, this remarkable woman continues to share her story in hopes that it inspires courage and resilience and touches the lives of those who hear it. Our evening with Rose Sherman Williams will take place on Wednesday, March 18th in the MacArthur Auditorium at 6:30 PM. Each High School Principal is a Deputy Voter Registrar by law. I want to encourage you to make sure you are registered to vote. If you or your child need to register, you can get a registration card at MacArthur in the Principal’s Office. You can either send it in yourself, or turn it in, and we will make sure it is turned in for you. Go Brahma Voters!BEHVIOR AT GAMES AND EVENTS –I want to be very clear of the expectations and consequences. It is okay to disagree with a call and to be a little loud when supporting our Brahmas. It is not okay to be disruptive or engage in personal attacks or confrontations with Coaches, referees, or students. Anyone causing a disturbance or verbally abusing the officials, coaches, or students will be given one warning. If the behavior continues, you will be asked to leave, or removed from the game. If the behavior is very serious or persistent (that is, it occurs on more than one occasion, it will result in the issuing of Criminal Trespass Warning, which means being barred from all events for up to two years. I would ask that you not put us in a position where this becomes necessary. Please let the coaches take care of the coaching and dealing with the officials. It is extremely important for us to model appropriate behavior at any function. Let’s do the right thing when we support our kids.
