Instructions: Your project is to create a map of Ancient Egypt that shows its major cities, important bodies of water, and other natural features. You must have all items below on your map to earn credit. Include this paper when you turn in your map.

I. Land Features-Using the map in your textbook on page 39, locate and label the land features

listed below. CROSS OFF THE FEATURE ON THE LIST AFTER YOU HAVE PLACED IT

ON THE MAP.

II. Bodies of Water-Using the map in your textbook on page 39, locate the following bodies

of water. Label them neatly on your map. CROSS OFF THE RIVER ON THE LIST

AFTER YOU HAVE LABLED IT ON THE MAP.

DEAD SEA MEDITERRANEAN SEA

NILE RIVER RED SEA

NEXT, Using the map in your textbook on page 39, locate the FIRST and SECOND

CATARACTS. DRAW a short line across the river, just like the textbook map, and then

label the name of the cataract next to the line that best describes its location.

`III. Regions and Cities-Using the map in your textbook on page 39, locate the following

regions. CROSS OFF THE REGION ON THE LIST AFTER YOU HAVE LABLED IT

ON THE MAP.

LOWER EGYPT UPPER EGYPT

NEXT, Using the map in your textbook on page 39, locate the following cities. label the

city next to the dot that best describes its location. CROSS OFF THE CITY ON THE

LIST AFTER YOU HAVE LABLED IT ON THE MAP.

ALEXANDRIA (not on page 39, but is northernmost city on the map)

GIZA MEMPHIS THEBES (Luxor)

IV. Special Locations-Using the map in your textbook of page 39, locate the special features

labeled below. Use the special symbol indicated to locate the feature, and then label it on your

map. CROSS OFF THE REGION ON THE LIST AFTER YOU HAVE LABLED IT

ON THE MAP.

GREAT PYRAMID AND SPHINX (draw a small pyramid ∆ marking the location, then label)

VALLEY OF THE KINGS (not on the map, but it is across the Nile from Thebes. Use an

(Egyptian ankh, [pic] to mark the location, then label the location).

V. Key, Scale, and Compass Rose

Create a legend box that contains the following items:

a. COMPASS ROSE

b. SYMBOL TO REPRESENT CITIES

c. SYMBOL TO REPRESENT RIVERS

d. DRAW A LINE THREE INCHES LONG. THIS WILL BE YOUR SCALE. LABEL THIS DISTANCE 200 MILES.

e. LABEL THREE BOXES FOR OLD KINGDOM, MIDDLE KINGDOM, and NEW KINGDOM. You will fill in the colors when you

color the map.

f. WRITE YOUR NAME ON THE BACK OF THE MAP

VI. Coloring. The entire map is colored.

DO NOT COLOR OUTSIDE THE BORDERS.

a. Use blue or blue-green for all of the bodies of water.

b. Using the map in your textbook on page 62, color Egypt with three

colors that you choose to represent the land conquered during the

three kingdoms. Use the same colors in your legend to match the

colors you used on the map. (Your map ends at 20° North, so you will

not be able to color all of the New Kingdom lands shown on the map)

c. Use a fourth color (lightly) to represent lands not in Egypt.

Use the following guidelines:

1) STAY WITHIN THE LINES

2)COLOR IN THE SAME DIRECTIONS

3) DO NOT COLOR THROUGH YOUR LABELS

4) COLOR EVENLY OR USE PROPER SHADING TECHNIQUES

5) COLOR MAP COMPLETLY

WHEN YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE MAP,

ATTACH THIS SHEET TO THE BACK OF YOUR MAP.
