Parts of Speech Posters

Assignment: Your group will be creating a poster for display in the classroom to help your classmates remember one of the eight parts of speech: nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, interjections, conjunctions, and prepositions.

Directions:

Step 1: Assign Group Roles (Some groups will have people performing more than one role)

• Researcher (someone to look up the definition and simplify it)

• Creative Coordinator (someone to create examples of the part of speech)

• Lead Designer (someone to design the overall look and organization of the poster)

• Presenter (someone to present the final project to the class)

Step 2: Research

• Create a simplified definition of your group’s part of speech (one that will be easy for your classmates to understand). You may refer to the dictionary, the grammar books, and Collections for help.

• Create some example sentences showing how this part of speech is used.

• Decide on illustrations, images, and ideas that your group can use to visually explain this part of speech.

• Create a rough draft of the poster on notebook paper before starting your final version.

Step 3: Final Draft

• Work with your group to create the final draft of your poster, including:

o A definition of your group’s part of speech

o At least one sentence showing this part of speech in use

o Illustrations and images that will help classmates understand and remember this part of speech

o All group members’ names should appear on the BACK of your poster

Step 4: Presentation

• Present your poster to the class, as a group. Your presentation must go above and beyond just reading your poster and pointing to the illustrations – it should actually help your classmates understand and remember your assigned part of speech.

-----------------------

Groups will be assessed on cooperative group work, the clarity and creativity of the poster, meeting the requirements stated in step 3 above, and the presentation (25 points).
