FORMAT
Sessions include a combination of lecture presentations and Q&A. Questions related to practice issues will be encouraged following each presentation. Instructions for retrieving the online course syllabus will be provided to participants upon registration.
NEEDS ASSESSMENT
This year’s topic blocks and agenda were developed based on data collected from previous Southwestern Conference on Medicine participants, the planning committee’s perceptions of needed improvements in primary care diagnoses and treatments, and review of current trends in literature.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Physicians will be able to state new techniques in the field of Primary Care and Internal Medicine. Physicians will also be able to discuss and apply practical knowledge, presented in an open forum, from leading specialists regarding the most up-to-date trends in colon cancer screening and prevention, updates on the treatment of coronary artery disease, non-pharmaceutical treatments on dementia, and avian flu epidemic to name a few.
CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION CREDIT
Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.
The American Osteopathic Association designates this continuing medical education activity for a maximum of 30 credit hours of Category 1A – 28.0 for the general session and 2.0 for the Optional Workshops. An additional one hour of AOA Category 1A Credit will be issued in exchange for a completd Exhibitor Card returned to the registration desk after completion of the exhibit hours or at the conference conclusion.
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of The University of Arizona College of Medicine at the Arizona Health Sciences Center and Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation. CME Reporting Forms
In response to guidelines adopted by the AOA, the following sign-in procedure is in effect for this meeting: In order to obtain credit, ALL attendees must complete the evaluation of speakers and CME sign-in form, included in the syllabus. Both forms must be returned to the registration staff by the conclusion of the meeting. Each attendee should claim only those hours that he/she actually spent in the educational activity. Also, we will ask that you sign in before the start of each day. Please see the registration staff upon arriving to the meeting.
NEW COMPLIANCE WITH DISCLOSURE OF RELEVANT FINANCIAL RELATIONSHIP(S) POLICY
Any OCME Staff, CME Committee faculty, or conference planning Committee member who does not comply with this policy (i.e. refuses to provide disclosure or provides partial/incomplete disclosure) will not be permitted to have control of, or responsibility for, the development, management, or evaluation of the conference.
NEW RESOLUTION OF PERSONAL CONFLICT OF INTEREST
The office of Continuing Medical Education will consider any OCME Staff, CME Committee, Planning Committee member or presenter who discloses a relevant financial relationship of any value with a commercial interest as having a personal conflict of interest (COI).
For any conflict of interest found for any OCME Staff, CME Committee or Planning Committee member, the OCME will discuss the COI with the CME Committee to determine the extent of his/her responsibilities that need to be altered to resolve the COI or if the responsibilities need to be reassigned to another person.
