Parents and Students,Starting Monday, we embark on our journey with eLearning. Attached to this email, you will find a helpful infographic outlining the steps you will need to take on the first day of school to log onto your Launchpad, access your schedule in FOCUS, and locate your teacher’s webpage for each of your classes. Our teachers have created a webpage for each class with instructions for you to log into the video platform they are using for that class. They are also going to share with you the website they will utilize to organize all of the classroom materials for distribution and collection. eLearning:Many families have asked what they need to do if they are choosing eLearning. If you are selecting the eLearning platform, there is no sign-up or checkbox. You will simply follow the enclosed directions to log into your teacher’s virtual classroom. Teachers will take attendance each day at the beginning of each class. Students not attending school on campus will need to complete an eLearning agreement and return that completed agreement to the school or cocoabeachhigh@. The agreement can be found on our website, on our eLearning infographic, and HERE.eLearning and Distance Learning:eLearning will not look like the distance learning model we left at the end of last school year. Students will be actively engaged in the eLearning process by simultaneously signing into their teacher’s virtual classroom while their peers are attending the same class in person. Assignments, pacing, rigor, and assessments will be the same as though you were sitting in the classroom. FOCUS:FOCUS will be the primary tool we use for the distribution of information. Each teacher will have a webpage for each class with directions to access all class resources. Any communication that is sent out to students will also be sent to any parents with an active account. Accessing FOCUS requires that parents have activated their FOCUS accounts. If you have not activated your FOCUS account, please email Colburn.Shelly@ for help. If you have forgotten your password, you will have to follow the “forgot my password” link on the FOCUS page, as we do not have access to reset your password. Students access their FOCUS through their Launchpad. Launchpad Passwords:If you are a returning student to Cocoa Beach, your old password will work when you log in for the first time. You will, however, be prompted to change your password immediately. If you are new to Cocoa Beach, but attended a Middle or High School within Brevard Country last year, the same applies to you. If you are an incoming 7th-grade student, your password is password1. You will then be prompted to update your password as well. If you are new to us coming from outside of our district and need help with your account, please contact the school. Textbooks:Many of our textbooks come with a digital version that is preloaded to your student's Launchpad. However, some courses only have hard copy texts. We will organize a textbook distribution event once school has started, and we finalize who our eLearners are. Schedules:Please check FOCUS regularly throughout the rest of the week and weekend for the most up to date schedule. Please follow that schedule, whether it is right or wrong, on Monday because that is where we are expecting to see you. We can address additional concerns later. Attendance:Choosing the eLearning platform still requires daily and timely attendance. Teachers will take attendance daily utilizing either video or audio to verify the student is in attendance. Periodic checks for attendance will also occur via classroom participation in discussions, answer verbal or written questions, accessing the chat features, and other forms of interaction. If a student is not participatory throughout the entire lesson/period, attendance and grades may be affected. Change of Platform:Many parents and students have asked if they are able to “eLearn” on an alternating basis. The answer to this is NO. If you decide that the learning model you have chosen is not working for you, we are more than happy to accommodate a change for you. Please let your teachers and/or counselor know that you would like to change to or from eLearning and in person and we will accommodate you. However, due to safety protocols, you are not able to continuously change back-and-forth. Special Circumstances:In the event that a student is sick or not feeling well, students are allowed to access the eLearning platform that day if they choose to get the material that is being covered in class. Choosing on-campus instruction does not exclude students from access the eLearning resources for the course. Further, in the event of a school closure, all students will be able to jump on the eLearning platform for their courses. ................
