PerZpectives – Election 2020 Reflection/Evaluation form What were some of the good points of the project? Explain:Melissa: I really liked being able to think of our own opinions and approaches to global issues and politics in general. It was also very interesting to see the interactions between people and how these changed once groups of people turned into different parties. This really gave me an insight into how politics actually works. I also really liked being a candidate, since I could really express all the thoughts we had as a party through speeches and debates. That’s why I also really enjoyed creating things like the political advert, cartoons and posters. It really let me be creative in ways that I might not have thought of before. Sarah: I really liked creating this imaginative reality where we, students, could decide things for once. There were no limits as long as you can elaborate on it. You get to understand the job of politicians; the good and bad and stressful. Ashlyn: Talking about politics and discussing with people adhering to different world views. What could have been improved? Explain: Melissa: It might have been nice if things had been announced earlier and in a more structured way. There were a lot of assignments and some of them were announced poorly, late or were just not present. This made planning difficult sometimes. Ashlyn: Discussions could have been more streamlined, as in, more about specific topics. And we didn’t really get to ask candidates questions.I’d love to just have a lesson of aftertalk with the rest of the class. Sarah: maybe we could have done more preparation at home so that we could use the entire Ib lesson to work on the assignments together. What have you learned from your experience? Explain: Melissa: I learned to be more flexible with things. There were some situations during this project where things did not go as planned or I had not prepared for things properly. This forced me to improvise and I am glad I got the chance to learn about that. I also learnt that politics just is not fair sometimes. This also forced me to improvise when things did not go my way. Ashlyn: I suppose i got even more involved into politics than I already was.Sarah: I learned to understand that problems have far more sides to it than I had previously thought. Fixing one problem could lead to other problems. I also learned that many things must change from the people within and certain things cannot be solved by throwing money at it. Lastly, I learned that I should never be a politician because it can be quite frustrating to never agree on things with collegues. But I cannot wait to vote. Which of the following do you think has improved during the project? Explain how and why: Language skills Use of formal language We think that especially during things like the debate, we were forced to communicate in ways that we had not thought of before. Also the formatting with things like the opinion column really helped to introduce us to new formats and make us familiar with them. Being able to get across your point with arguments and convince other people of itPresenting your opinion in a way that is understandable Other skills Listening skills, not interrupting someone during the debate or discussion. Creative skills like editing, drawing, filming, etc. Knowledge We did a lot of research to understand the current situation and understand how we could achieve our goals. Knowledge of other parties and how they present their opinionsKnowledge of being able to actually execute your vision creatively In less than 250 words give a brief description of your experience and outcomes:We learnt a lot of things about how politics work and how we fit into that as a party and as individuals. It was very fun to be so creatively involved in executing our own ideas and seeing those contrast with the ideas of others. ................
