STUDENT RECOMMENDATION

The visual arts program (for students in grades 3, 4 and 5) includes exposure to art history, contemporary trends and art appreciation. Studio emphasis is placed on drawing, printmaking, painting, commercial art, fibers, sculptures and ceramics.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS & AUDITION PROCESS WILL CONSIST OF:

1. Evaluating samples of ORIGINAL artwork accomplished by the student either at home or in school.

2. Administering a three – pronged “observation, imagination, and visual memory” drawing test.

3. Holding an interview to help determine the student’s level of discipline, interest, and suitability for the program.

4. All students should bring a portfolio to the audition, consisting of five to ten best examples of their artwork, representing as many different mediums as possible.

5. Completing and returning application (with teacher’s recommendation and a copy of the most recent report card) by January 31.

AGREEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING

By signing below, I acknowledge my understanding of the following conditions for this recommendation. I have completed a School of Choice application and returned it to the offices of Specialized Programs-Schools of Choice.

✓ Failure to complete all requested information will cause this recommendation form to be rejected.

✓ Additional admission requirements may be necessary and these must be completed and submitted as part of the application process.

✓ Student diversity is a consideration in the selection of students for magnet programs.

✓ Eligibility may be determined by such factors as skill, talent, academic performance, conduct, and interest.

✓ Failure to respond to an offer of acceptance by the specified timeframe will render the outcome as a parent/legal guardian decline.

✓ Applications received from October 1 through January 15 will be eligible for consideration for enrollment in the next school year.

I hereby give permission for my child to be screened for admission to the magnet program. If accepted, he/she will be enrolled as a full-time student at South Miami K-8 Center. Transportation availability is limited and may not be available to all students. My child must demonstrate acceptable performance (as determined by school-site policy) in order to remain in the magnet program. This recommendation form becomes void at the end of the current school year.
