How was my child selected to attend Math Intervention?

Your child was selected to participate in our program due to the following measure:

• A teacher selection score from the previous year using data from MAP scores in math (Measure of Academic Progress) as well as Go Math scores taken at the beginning and end of the school year.

When does my child come to Math Intervention

Your child attends Math Intervention 2 to 3 times a week for 40 minutes. Most students come while their homeroom class is having Guided Reading. Their guided reading group will meet at a different time during the day. There is no new material being presented in their homeroom class at this time, therefore, your child is not required to make-up any assignments. Some students also come during part of their math time.

What do we do in Math Intervention?

We work on reteaching the Common Core concepts taught in the Go Math curriculum. In a small group setting, we use manipulatives, songs, chants, videos, and a variety of teaching strategies to help reinforce everyday math concepts. If your child comes to my room on Mondays, they will receive additional practice on basic math facts.

What can I do at home to help?

**Your child’s login is their computer log in and student’s id. The password is tiger. MobyMax is an online program that keeps track of the individual progress of your child. The students began taking a placement test in each math category to determine their level on where to begin. The website also has all subject areas they can work on at home.

Strategies to use at home(

When subtracting 2 or more digits:

C.U.B.E.S Method for Problem Solving:

• Circle the important numbers

• Underline the question

• Box or Bubble the units/labels

• Examine firecracker words(in all, total, how much more, etc)

• Set up and solve the problem

Chant= When you read the words, fewer, more or less, when you take a test, you subtract.
