Students will be dismissed from this door as well. Those who take the bus after school will be sent to go to their designated line up. Supervision is provided outside the school 15 minutes before and after school. Please ensure you drop off and pick up your child within these times. As both drop off and pick up times are very busy, I ask that if you would like to discuss your child’s learning or school experience, please send an email request in order to arrange a time to meet. PARENT VOLUNTEERSParent volunteers are always appreciated to help our class stay organized and enable us to engage in bigger projects. Please let me know your availability: in class, as a driver, or with help-from-home projects. You can visit the sign up sheet on our classroom website to note your preference. Once we have our routines well established, I will contact volunteers (likely in October). Thank you in advance!00SCHOOL DROP OFF & PICK UPPlease ensure your child is lined up outside our exterior class door by 8:30am. Students will be dismissed from this door as well. You are also strongly encouraged to visit the “Reading” page so students can practice their French reading and sight words at home, as needed. Follow the “Videos” and “Games” pages for more fun activities. Most classroom songs can be found in video format (via YouTube) on the “Songs” page. Pro-social ClassroomIn the coming weeks, I will be working with students to make our classroom a safe, welcoming place for everyone. Over the course of the year, I will be using several programs to help foster this kind of environment, such as W.I.T.S., ZONES OF REGULATION and practicing MINDFULNESS. In order to support these efforts, I ask that you refrain from sending birthday or play date invitations to school unless you are including the entire class. As I understand that is not always possible, I am compiling a class list of emails and phone numbers to accommodate communication outside the classroom. Please fill out the permission on the last page and return to school in the blue folder.00Classroom Website:mmecamille.Email address:camille.paradis@sd68.bc.caOur class website will be a useful tool if you want to know upcoming events. I will ask for volunteer parent drivers to offset the expensive cost of bussing whenever possible. Please see the attached list of our anticipated AEEs for the year. As this list may change slightly throughout the year, please always refer to our classroom website for monthly updates.Speaking FrenchI will be strongly encouraging the students to speak French throughout the day. In order to take advantage of every minute we have together and develop a good foundation of French language skills, my interactions with students will be predominantly in French. English will be used only when necessary to clarify instructions where new ideas are introduced and for important rules and/or safety instructions. In addition to encouraging students’ love of French through fun activities, games and songs, I will introduce French culture through traditional rhymes, songs, events and customs. You can support your child’s language learning by following along with our home reading program, ask your child to share their experiences regularly, encourage them to tell you the new French vocabulary or songs they learn each day or week and ensure they have enough sleep each night. In order to provide additional motivation to speak French and to complement our math unit on money, students will earn “classroom money” for speaking French in class. Each Friday afternoon, they will have the opportunity to purchase items from our “classroom store.” Additions to the store are always welcome! If you have small toys or games at home in good condition that you would like to recycle to our store, please send them in a bag marked “classroom store.” Many thanks!Veggie programBoth to encourage healthy eating and start the school day with a full tummy, ready to learn, we will have a veggie program in the class. These veggies will be set out for students each morning upon arrival and will be available upon request throughout the day. Parents are asked to please sign up for two separate weeks to bring in two large Ziplocs bags or labeled, reusable containers of pre-cut veggies at the beginning of the week. Please do NOT send either fruit or dip. Please visit our classroom website for the signup sheet.Snacks & TreatsIn keeping with our school’s “Healthy Eating Policy,” please ensure that you are sending a nutritious snack that your child can eat within 15 minutes. You can find a link for some healthy, easy snack choices on our class website. As we have several serious nut allergies in our school, please only send foods that do not contain nuts. Please send only WATER for your child to drink. Please do not send juice. While I understand often families like to send in sweet treats for birthdays and special occasions, I respectfully request that your treats follow our Healthy Eating Policy. Some fun and healthy ideas are noted on the link our website.Class petWe have a hamster in our class this year. He is just a baby now and has not yet been named, so this will be one of our first priorities! We will learn careful pet handling and safe cleanup before we get started holding our hamster. Students will share the responsibility of caring for him and will be given the opportunity to sign up to take him home for weekend sleepovers! Please find the sign-up sheet on our website or look for it posted outside our classroom door for the first week of school. If anyone would like to adopt our hamster at the end of June, please let me know as he will be released on a first request basis Alternative Environment Education (AEE)Going outside and into the community enables students to explore ideas and concepts discussed in class, to learn about local people and cultures as well as to extend our learning through local experts and to help students to keep active.
