EN197 Creative Writing C-3, Cr-3

Course Description:

This course introduces the techniques of fiction and poetry writing through a series of discussions, readings, and writing activities.

Prerequisite: EN102 English 2: Ideas & Values in Literature.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon the successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• Define the key characteristics of poetry, fiction, and drama.

• Analyze the elements of each genre and utilize them in the process of writing.

• Demonstrate understanding of the various stages of the creative process.

• Write clearly, forcefully, and imaginatively.

• Critique and revise one’s own work and that of one’s peers.

• Identify and explore one’s own voice and style of writing.

• Increase appreciation for fine writing.

• demonstrate an understanding of at least one principal form of artistic expression and the creative process inherent therein.*
