Chapter 1: Multimasking

(Satisfies Elective Requirement)

Chapter Objectives

After completing this course, the learner will be able to:

? Identify several different types of face masks and recognize their unique purposes.

? Select the ideal face mask(s) for their clients depending on skin types and skin conditions.

? Explain the process of multimasking and discuss which clients can benefit from this custom facial treatment.

? Recognize the importance of customizing face masks, which will allow clients to reap the benefits of a tailored treatment.

Introduction

A large variety of face masks are on the market today. It can often be an overwhelming choice when deciding which face mask is appropriate for one's client. Depending on the client's skin type, current skin condition, and present skin goal, more than one treatment may be beneficial for the client. The process of multimasking allows the cosmetologist or esthetician to combine face masks to target specific areas of concern. Several different masks can be used together in separate areas of the skin to provide the most appropriate treatment for each area. Multimasking can also be achieved by performing a series of masks during one treatment. This process is ideal for all clients as most people have different skin concerns for different areas of their face.

Facial masks have been used as a facial treatment since ancient times. Face masks are an excellent way to hydrate, tone, and moisturize the skin. Women and men have been using homemade facial masks out of clay, rose water, and herbs for centuries. Today a multitude of face masks are available for purchase and fit individual needs. Whether a person has dry skin, oily skin, skin texture issues, redness from irritation, acne, aging skin, dehydrated skin, or any other skin issues, a mask is available to meet the client's specific condition.
