About the Speaker

Sandra M. Burke, BSN, RN, MPH, LHRM

Sandy has experience in all levels of health care. She served as consultant and faculty for Joint Commission from 1989 until 2004. In addition to being president of her own company, Ms. Burke brings outstanding experience as a nurse executive, administrator, Risk Manager, patient safety and performance improvement expert to her role as a consultant. She is the Clinical/Joint Commission (TJC) Consultant for the Florida Hospital Association. Established in experience, Sandy can consult on most programs including hospitals, ambulatory care, home care/hospice, behavioral health, and/or long term care. Whether she is the nurse, or administrator consultant, her ratings are always excellent. Sandy is one of the most versatile and highest rated healthcare consultants working today.

Sandy assisted in the development of the Veterans' Administration National Center for Patient Education. In 2009-2010 she was the consultant that developed the Veterans' Administration National template for medical staff bylaws. She consultants with multiple VA facilities and programs. Ms. Burke taught a wide range of programs for the Joint Commission Department of Education Programs and was consistently rated the highest of all faculty. She was one of only three people selected by Joint Commission to do the nationwide education on the new 2004 standards and survey process. She now does all clinical education programs for the Florida Hospital Association and teaches for six other hospital associations. She spent a month in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia teaching continuous quality improvement.

Ms. Burke has also gone to Egypt and Ireland to help both countries begin the development of standards and an accreditation process. She has published “Patient Care Trainee-Educational Employment” and her research has included a grant from Abbott Laboratories and work with the University of Florida in Perceptions of Education.

Continuing Education Credits

Nursing participants: Instruct-online has approved this program for 1.8 contact hours, Iowa Board of Nursing Approved Provider Number 339. Completion of offering required prior to awarding certificate.

All other participants: Must attend the entire Webinar and complete a Webinar critique to receive a 1.5 Hour Attendance Certificate for each program.
