Junior Infants daily work (6th- 8thof May)

As we are meant to be off on Monday and Tuesday we are just setting work from Wednesday to Friday.

Try your best to get through the work but don’t worry at all if you don’t get it all completed (

Wednesday:

Irish:

- Listen to all the songs/poems on the theme “An Teilifís”

- Comhrá: We had gotten so good at chatting to each other every day at the start of each Irish lesson. Why don’t we start revising them. You could have your comhrá with different members of your family. You might be able to teach them (

- Dia dhuit - Dia is mhuire dhuit

- Conas atá tú? - Tá mé go maith/níl mé go maith

- Cad is ainm duit? - ________ is ainm dom

- Revise the sentence “Cad atá ar an teilifís? Tá _____ ar an teilifís (sorcas, moncaí, tíogar, fear grin, cangarú)

- Bua na cainte page 34

- Wordbox 10 (1-5) (I have attached wordboxes 10,11 and 12 below)

- Tricky words (1-12)

- Reading: Sentences 21 and 22 and draw a picture of them.

➢ If you like you could try and write one of sentences, copying mine.

- Phonics: “r” can you remember the song or the story?

➢ Is there anything in your house or outside beginning with “r”?

➢ Play I spy with words beginning with “r”

- Writing: Practise writing the letter “r” (Ready to Write page)

- How many words beginning with “r” can you write?

- There are some nice cartoon type videos on YouTube based on phonics. They are called the Alphablocks. I have attached one video below – but any of the Alphablock videos are suitable. These videos are all around 20 minutes each or longer, so no pressure to do them but they can be a nice extra activity for the children if needed.

- Have a go at Word Wizard p 96.

Maths:

- Planet math’s little book page 39

- Counting games

- Go over the days of the week (Today is _____)

- Making sets of a certain number. Write down/call out a number between 1-5 and the children have to make the correct set.

Religion:

- We are now in the month of May – This month we celebrate Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Our school is Scoil Mhuire – named after Mary, therefore we remember Mary a lot.

- Say a little prayer of thanks to Mary.

- Draw a picture of Mary.

Aistear:

This is the last week of our Aistear theme “Emergency Services”.

Keep up all the small world, construction, junk art and role-playing.

Why not pretend you are a fire fighter, design your own uniform (it can be a colourful as you like () what equipment does a fire fighter need? Draw them too. Email me your pictures, I would love to see them!

Thursday:

Irish:

- Listen to all the songs/poems on the theme “An Teilifís”

- Is maith liom _______(cáca, banana buí, úll, rothar, babóg etc.)

- Tá mé ag ____(rith, siúl, léim, canadh, damhsa, rothaíocht, gáire).

- Bua na Cainte p 35 – what are the fear grin, tíogar, leon, moncaí doing?

- Phonics: “m” can you remember the song or the story?

- Writing: Practise writing the letter “m”

- Try and write the words: mat, hat, rat (what can we say about these words – they rhyme) (if you call out the words let the children try and write them by themselves)

- Word Wizard p90: look at each picture, write the sound that it begins with?

- You could try and write some of these words out after if you like.

Maths:

- Planet math’s little book page 40

- Counting games

- How many 2d shapes can you see around the house (square, circle, rectangle, circle)

- I have put a little video on our website page to demonstrate what we are doing today: partitioning sets

- Have a go at it yourselves.

Religion:

- Create your own May altar somewhere in your house.

- For this you could go out and pick some fresh flowers and put them in a vase, you could put your drawing of Mary there, a candle or rosary beads if you have them.

- I have attached a powerpoint on making a May Altar for you to have a look at.

Art:

- Here is an activity you could try: In this example they used painted pieces of tin foil, but you could use crepe paper or paint or whatever materials you like

Friday:

Irish:

- Listen to the all the songs/poems on the theme “An Teilifís”.

- Repeat the comhrá from yesterday.

- Let’s revise our colours: glas, óraiste, buí, gorm, dearg, dubh

- Bua na Cainte page 36 : Colour the fear grin in the correct colours

- Reading: Sentences 25 and 26 and draw a picture of them.

- Phonics: “d” can you remember the song or the story?

➢ How many things can you see in the house and outside beginning with “d”

➢ Odd one out (give a list of 3 words e.g. door, dog, tap -which is the odd one out? tap because the other 2 words begin with “d”(you can make this more difficult by adding an extra word)

- Writing: Practice writing the letter “d”

- Can you write the sentence “I see a big dog” by yourself? (Remember two finger spaces between words, froggy grip, capital letters and a full stop).

- Try Word Wizard p88: Can you retell the story of the Ugly Duckling to members of your family?

Maths:

- Planet math’s little book page 41

- Counting games

- Have a look at yesterday’s video again and repeat the activity using different counting materials.

- Planet Maths page 107

Religion:

- Today I would like you to do a “Feelings Check” on everybody in your family. You start off by saying “Today I am feeling _____ because……” and continue on to everyone else.

- It might be a nice idea to ring your grandparents and do a feelings check on them.

PE:

- Be sure to do your PE with Joe Wicks today. You could also do some Cosmic kids yoga!

SESE:

- Here is a nice story for you to listen to: It’s Check-up Time, Elmo!

- Afterwards you could draw a picture of your favourite part of the story and write a sentence about it.
