Sample Constituent Response Letter

Sample Constituent Response LetterDear <<Constituent>>:Thank you for taking the time to contact me about potential changes to your local television stations. I appreciate hearing from you, and welcome the opportunity to respond to your concerns.First, potential changes to our local TV stations will primarily affect viewers who watch TV for free through an antenna. If your TVs are connected to a cable or satellite service your pay-TV provider will make any necessary changes for you.If you watch television for free with an antenna, the airwaves that carry your local television channels also carry wireless internet content that you use on your smartphone or other devices. As more people in the U.S. – and in our district – use wireless internet, the space shared with local TV channels has become increasingly crowded. To address this, the Federal Communications Commission (which regulates public airwaves) held an auction to make more airwaves available for wireless services. That process requires some TV stations to move from one frequency to another. What does this mean for you? If you use an antenna to watch TV for free, you will simply rescan your TV if and when any of your local stations move frequencies. Rescanning is when your TV finds all of the available channels in your area.To rescan, select "scan" or "autotune" from your TV or converter box menu. You can usually find instructions by pressing the "set-up" or "menu" buttons on your remote control. The channel numbers you know will not change. If you haven’t rescanned your TV recently, you may discover TV channels that you didn’t know you were missing. You do not need to purchase new equipment or services. Your local TV stations will let you know in advance when they are moving so you will know to rescan. You can also visit for more information. If you need help with the rescanning process, contact the FCC hotline at 1-888-CALLFCC (1-888-225-5322) and press "6" to speak to a help desk representative. The call center is staffed from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern time, seven days a week.ContinuedRest assured that I will work to ensure that you and your neighbors in <<DISTRICT>> retain access to the critical local news, emergency information and quality programming our local stations provide. Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact me about this important issue. Your comments help me to better represent you and the people of <<DISTRICT>>.Sincerely, <<Member of Congress>>May 2019 ................
