A liability waiver and model release form must be completed for each participant, including Georgia Tech students, siblings, and other family members. Please note that all minors under the age of 18 must stay with their Georgia Tech student and/or parent/guardian throughout Sibs Day. 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. Campus Tours or Brunch – Round 1Sibs Day participants will enjoy a walking campus tour of Georgia Tech. Ambassadors will share information about the Institute’s history, traditions, and fun facts along the tour. Ambassadors escort half of the participants from the Ferst Center and end at North Avenue for Brunch. The other half of the participants will head to Brunch at North Avenue. Present your Sibs Day lanyard to the North Avenue staff for brunch. 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.Campus Tours or Brunch – Round 2Sibs Day participants will enjoy a walking campus tour of Georgia Tech. Ambassadors will share information about the Institute’s history, traditions, and fun facts along the tour. Participants will wrap up brunch and leave from North Avenue for their tour and end at Tech Green. The group that just completed their tour will enjoy brunch and then choose their next location for their Yellow Jacket Experience. Session 1The LEGO Brick – More than a ToyStudent Center, Room 301The quintessential LEGO brick is a 4x2 brick. Eight of these bricks can combine in 915,103,765 ways. Children and adults have used this brick and millions of others to build models of their real and imagined worlds for about 60 years. However, did you know that building with LEGO bricks can unleash the imagination and potential that is normally untapped by the logical mind? Through a hands-on, interactive play approach, participants in this session will unlock their potential, enhance communication and collaboration skills, and have a little fun in the process.Presenters: Stacey Doremus, Assistant Director of Leadership and Development Programs and Systems, and two student leaders. Session limited to 30 participantsSession 2The Biochemistry of Beeswax – all ages TBDThe Georgia Tech Urban Honey Bee Project currently houses bees on the roof of the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons and studies how urban habitats affect honeybees. ?In this session, you will learn about the awesome physical properties of beeswax and use the scientific method to make an ideal lip balm that you can take home! Presenters: Members of Georgia Tech Urban Honey Bee Project. Session limited to 20 participantsSession 3Paper & ClayStudent Center, Paper & Clay Studio, Room 303Georgia Tech Student Center's Paper & Clay art studio will host a free art project using perler beads to create keychains. Other arts and crafts options are available.Session limited to 25 participantsSession 4Egg Drop Experiments Skiles CourtyardGeorgia Tech engineering students will help participants construct a container strong enough to keep an egg from breaking. Student leaders will drop the container from a higher elevation. Will your egg survive the fall? Come find out and have fun!Session 5Mock Admission Session – This session is ONLY offered at 12:30 p.m. Smithgall Student Services, Room 117 Join a counselor from the Office of Undergraduate Admission for an interactive mock admission session. In this fun-filled session, participants will learn about the factors that admission officers consider and how applications are reviewed. Presenter: Andrew Cohen, Associate Director, Office of Undergraduate AdmissionRecommended for 8th grade and above. Session 6 Georgia Tech K9 Unit Piedmont Room, located in the Student Center next to lower food courtThrough a program with Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the Georgia Tech Police Department's K9 unit provides training for agencies all over the state. Come learn about what the K9 Unit does here at Georgia Tech and how the dogs are trained – you can also meet one of the dogs!Session 7Kendeda Building, located on the corner of Ferst Street and State Street Kendeda “Living Builidng” TourTake a tour of the brand new Kendeda Builiding or Living Building must harness more energy and water than it consumes. The building is the first of its kind in the Southeast and has several unique features. The outdoor learning space consists of a rooftop garden that has a honeybee apiary, pollinator garden, and blueberry orchard. Functionally, the rooftop garden contains rainwater catchments to help manage storm water runoff, while shade provided by the photovoltaic canopy helps mitigate the urban heat island effect. Tours will start in the lobby at 12:30 and 1:30 pm. Session 8Library Tour Meet in the Grove Level Lobby – lower level of library (next to the Bobby Dodd entrance) Go on a tour of the newly renovated Georgia Tech Library housed entirely in Crosland Tower during construction of Price Gilbert. The GT Library features eight stories of archives, classroom, study, and studio space for Tech’s students, faculty, and staff. Included are spaces and technology for data visualization, high-performance computing, multimedia studies, collaboration, and iterative design. In its new iteration, Crosland Tower boasts loads of natural light and soaring, multi-floor atriums mirroring the midcentury modern architecture of Price Gilbert Memorial Library, now under renovation until 2020. When complete, both buildings will more than double seating capacity while cutting energy consumption by nearly 60 percent. Participants will learn about the different locations where students study or intern abroad, what they can?study, and how this can be affordable for them as they start thinking about college. right5080002:30 – 3:30 P.M. Community ServiceStudent Center, Piedmont Room Join us in the Piedmont room for the #GTKindnessRocks community service project. You can help write and paint kind and encouraging messages on small rocks that will be left around campus for other students to find. 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.Bowling, Billiards, & Buzz! Student Center (lower level), Tech Rec Bowl with your sibling(s), play a few games, get a crazy balloon hat, and take a selfie with Buzz! Snacks, including popcorn, fresh fruit, and hot chocolate, will keep you buzzin’ throughout the night. 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.DinnerWest VillageUse your $10 meal voucher at one of the locations in West Village. You will be able to choose an entrée, side, and drink with your $10 voucher. Student leaders will be available to escort participants who choose to walk as well. Make sure you ask the bus driver where buses are departing after the game to take you back to the Student Center. NOTE: Only clear totes or sling bags are permitted into McCamish Pavilion. TBD Check-OutBefore you depart for the day, be sure to check out at the designated table in McCamish Pavilion or in the near the information desk on the 2nd floor of the Student Center while you are waiting to get picked up. We suggest meeting them outside the Student Center on Ferst Drive. Look for the Sibs Day Pick-up sign on the corner near the entrance to the surface parking lot – Area 2, next to the Student Center.
