10th Grade GLOBAL HISTORY IISUMMER ASSIGNMENTMs. Duskic CURRENT EVENTS/ENDURING ISSUESWhat is your current events assignment?Your current events assignment is a chance to focus on regions of the world other than North America that you are going to follow for the rest of the year. Throughout the summer, you will find an article about a major event or problem in the region, connect it to a global history theme and write an analysis of the article. Throughout the year, you will develop a strong understanding of the issues and challenges that your region faces. Read an article that pertains to EACH of the SEVEN regions. The Enduring Issue can repeat or be a different issue per region. SO, in total you should have 7 different articles, and COMPLETE ALL 8 of the requirements seen below per article.I will include a graphic organizer that you can copy and paste for each of the articles. Save them all, eventually I will set up a google classroom/drive and all work will be submitted through that platform. The regions you can choose from include:1.Europe (Western and Eastern Europe)2.Asia (includes China, Japan and Korea)3.Southeast Asia (Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Cambodia)4.Africa (all of sub-Saharan Africa)5.Northern Africa (includes Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Morocco, Libya and a few others)6.Middle East (includes Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and many others)7.Central and South America (including Mexico)Suggestion: If you are doing Europe or the Middle East as your region, it will make the project more manageable if you focus on events in one or two specific countries within the region.Where can I find my article?Sadly, not all papers and websites are created equal. You should use newspapers and online sources that will report the news in the most responsible and comprehensive way possible. So that means no local papers, and no tabloids like The Daily News or The New York Post. You should be using papers like The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, or The Washington Post. You can get most of these papers online (the New York Times website is free and breaks news stories down by regions!) Suggested Web Pages ??? ?You are not limited to just these sites, but please make sure that they are reputable sources.I found my articles! Now what do I do?For each current events article you find, you have to complete a graphic organizer that will include the following components …You will have to complete 7 graphic organizers.1.What is the source of your article?2.What is the date the article was written?3.In what region or specific country did the events in the article take place?4.Which Enduring Issue does your article focus on? You can see the effects of power in your relationships with your family and friends, and in schools, sports, business and government. ?Inequality: The state of being unequal.
