Dual Enrollment English Composition for 2009-2010

Dual Enrollment Information for 2018-2019

Dual Enrollment English Composition I/ENG 111 – Fall Semester; English Composition II/ ENG 112 – Spring Semester & DE Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow

A Dual Enrollment course means that the student is enrolled in the course at both Brooke Point and Germanna simultaneously, therefore, the student must complete the course registration process through both schools. Registration information for dual enrollment will be distributed in late April. Dual enrollment courses are weighted classes.

Tuition for the course is the responsibility of the student/parent/guardian and will be collected at the beginning of each semester. Students must earn a C or higher in ENG 111 in order to move onto ENG 112 and earn the six college credits. If a student does not earn a C or higher in ENG 111, he/she will be moved into a regular English 12 for the second semester.

Steps to be considered for Dual Enrollment Courses:

1. Apply online at Germanna’s homepage: .

- Once on the homepage, click on VCCS online application. Click on new users. It is recommended that the student enter his/her Social Security number as not doing so will limit ability to access Germanna’s online student resources.

- Enter current high school information and expected date of graduation. Select Germanna as the college.

- Complete the Determination of Domicile Questionnaire section with a parent or guardian present. Parents must sign the Certification Section on page two of the Application for Admission if the student is under age 18.

- At the end of the application process, a student will receive a student ID number, a Student Information System (SIS) username, and a temporary password. Upon completion of the application, the student must login to “MyGCC” and set a personalized password. MyGCC is the portal to Germanna’s online resources, including student grades, e-mail, library database, and Blackboard learning module.

- IMMEDIATELY EMAIL THE GERMANNA ID NUMBER TO FALKBW@ . THIS MUST BE COMPLETED BY MIDNIGHT ON APRIL 15th IN ORDER TO TAKE THE VIRGINIA PLACEMENT TEST AT BROOKE POINT. Students may also register on April 12 in Rm. 350 after school.

*If you experience difficulty when completing the online application, contact Germanna at (540)-891-3020.

2. If you are not exempt, you will be required to take the Virginia Placement Test at Brooke Point High School and have a passing Algebra I SOL score. The three-hour test will be given on April 24 and April 25. Each student will receive a pass on the morning of his/her testing appointment. A student is exempt from taking the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) and having the Algebra passing score, if he/she earned the following on the SAT or ACT test. :

|Test |Section |Score |

|SAT |Both Reading and Writing |480 or above |

|SAT |Math |530 or above |

|ACT |Both Reading and Writing |18 or above |
