Study Guide 45 Assigned Readings:

- Review Masomo Ya Kisasa: “Kujipatia Mchumba,” (pp. 37-39).

Exercises:

- Masomo Ya Kisasa: “Kujipatia Mchumba,” Activities – Complete Objectives 5 and 6 (p. 44). Write out a list of FIVE questions such as the one posed on Objective 5. Then prepare answers to each of the questions in which you give advice by comparing alternatives (Objective 6).

- Masomo Ya Kisasa: “Kujipatia Mchumba,” Activities – Complete Objective 9 (p. 45). Write out 10 questions for which you might want to seek advice in East Africa.

- Find and Listen to an audio/visual clip from one of the Swahili news sources provided above. Listen/watch until you can comprehend it enough to relay the topic and general gist of the information to someone else.

Assignments due at Tutorial:

- Written questions with answers as in Objectives 5 and 6.

- 10 questions as in Objective 9.

- Write a short paragraph describing the video or audio clip you chose for this week.

Preparation for Conversation Session:

- Be prepared to pose questions about alternatives related to practical situations in East Africa. Be prepared to propose advice-giving answers to those alternatives.

- Be prepared to answer questions from your conversation partner or other students with advice-giving answers.

- Be prepared to ask questions of your conversation partner about the best way to handle some practical situations in East Africa. Be prepared to practice relaying that information on to someone else.

- Be prepared to discuss the audio/video clip that you chose for this week. How much can you understand? How much can you guess from context? If you read a similar news article in English and then go back and listen to the Swahili can you catch more of what is going on?

- Discuss with your conversation partner what the current hot topics are in the news of his/her home country.
