As such, the instructor HIGHLY RECOMMENDS Freshman not take this class, because basics from that previous class will be reviewed but also expanded greatly into new and interesting areas. Students will be tasked to improve their English communication across a variety of skills, including Grammar, Vocabulary, Pronunciation, and Critical Thinking. There will be an emphasis on Speaking and Listening, focusing on both Accuracy and Fluency. The media we watch is used for topic introduction, cultural exposure, and source material to apply the skills from the lectures during evaluation methods (tests and presentations). By the end of the course students must be able to intelligently speak about English-language media they have seen.Course Structure – The class will be 3 hours every week and, generally speaking, will alternate from Lecture Classes, where new skills are introduced and practiced, and Viewing Classes, where films and tv shows from different genres (that relate to the lectures) are shown during class time. Regarding the media we watch, students will vote during class and choose the film or tv show. If you have any film or tv suggestions, please share them with the Professor!Grades10%Attendance/ Participation15% Homework(Typed Entries)15% Presentation 115% Presentation 220% Midterm25% Final ** this course is subject to a Grade Curve: A = 50%, B = 40%, C/D/F = 10%, maximum**HomeworkIt is graded on a Check, Check-Plus, Check-Minus, Incomplete scale.
