Welbeck class - weekly plan Date: 29th June 2020 Theme: End of YearActivity OverviewTASKResources NeededTeacher/Parent NotesWeekly Premise:This week our project is ‘End of Year’ and is all about 2019-20, albeit slightly shortened and bizarre this year. The project involves lots of memories, lots of gathering information and a chance to be supportive of class mates. The work completed by year 6s will be used to make up their end of year leaver’s books. For year 5 this will help shape some class displays for September, support year 4>5 transitional students and to begin their own leaver’s information for Summer 2021.Monday AMMental MathsIn class only – this is an additional activitySummer 7Monday AM 1MathsSubtracting decimals with the same number of decimal places(Support Videos: )Monday AM 2EnglishLockdown Life2020 saw the first lockdown for quite a few generations and different families found different ways to keep life ticking over during the restrictions. What was lockdown like for you?Discuss:Staying at homeBeating boredomSchool work onlineAdditional learning activities you undertook (such as cooking, gardening etc)Think about the above themes and the bullet points to the right to help shape your recount of lockdown or you.I’d like you to write a recount (a piece of writing where you remember something that has already happened) about your life during lockdown. What was it like watching the news at first? How did you feel about school being cancelled? What did you do to stay active? What did you do for fun?Did anything get boring, even your PS/xbox maybe?!What did you do around the house?Who did you stay in touch with and how? When did you leave the house? What was it like following the news? What was it like social distancing at 2metres?When you finally started doing things again, what was it like? What do you think the future will be like following the pandemic?- Feel free to help the children with this, it is not an independent piece of work. Some children may initially feel like they have nothing to write, because they didn’t do much. In this instance, focus on feelings and the things that they couldn’t do and why.Monday PMTopicSelf-Portraits Children are to have a go at drawing themselves in self-portrait style. The Year 6 portraits will be used in their end of year leaver’s books on their individual pages. Year 5 portraits will be collaged on a memories page.Follow the advice on the How to draw a self-portrait power point.Remember:-Paper uprightUse shading or colourTake your time!Plain paperSelf-portrait power pointTuesday AMArithmetic 52Children are given 15 minutes to complete their Arithmetic sheet.Arithmetic 52Tuesday AM 1MathsSubtracting decimals with a different number of decimal places(Support Videos: )Tuesday AM 2EnglishAll About CuckneyThe first step towards creating a year book is to collect all the relevant information. Today we’re going to start by focussing on Cuckney school.I’d like you to firstly write about your earliest memory of Cuckney – for some of you it might be receiving a home visit from Mrs Kendall, or it could be something you got up to in Holbeck class!Secondly I’d like you to write about what you remember about entering Welbeck class. Were you excited/nervous? Were you worried about having a new teacher? Were you thinking about how the work would be different?Describe those feelings building up to starting in Welbeck class at the beginning of year 5.Your third task is to write about your favourite memories of Welbeck class – what were the best things you did? Fourthly, I would like you to think back to all the amazing trips you have been on whilst at Cuckney school? What were the best ones? Why were they so good?(YEAR 6) Finally I’d like you to write about what you will miss about Cuckney School and what you won’t miss!(YEAR 5) Finally I’d like you to write about what you enjoy about school, and what you don’t enjoy! All about Cuckney advice sheetLined paper (or just paper!)The Year 6 memories will be used to create personal pages in their yearbooks.Year 5 memories can be used next year to help them write these in class. If you hang on to this piece of writing and hand them in come September, I can file them for use in a year’s time.Tuesday PMYearbook CoversWe are going to make a cover for our Year 6 Leaver’s Year book.Children design a cover for their books, including:Your nameSchool nameLeaver’s year (2020 or 2019-20)School badgeThe design can include anything, pictures of things they did at Cuckney, pictures of friends, pictures of their own favourite things, as long as it is personalised to them, it really doesn’t matter.Children in class will be shown examples of previous year books.***Note*** - Year 5 do not have to do this activity.Wednesday AMMental MathsIn class only – this is an additional activityMental Maths Summer 7bWednesday AM 1MathsMultiplying decimals by 10, 100 and 1000(Support Videos: )Wednesday AM 2EnglishCuckney AnecdotesWhat is an anecdote? An anecdote is a funny story from the past that you or your friends were involved in. What made you laugh uncontrollably? What did you/your friend/an adult do that was just that daft that you hope you’ll never forget it?Anecdotes are written in the same style as recounts, so tell the story of what happened chronologically (in time order of how it happened). Remember, the reader can’t visualise it like you can if they weren’t there, so describe in detail to really set the scene and paint a mental picture for them.Work through the power point on anecdotes and then read some of the examples before beginning your own on the sheet provided.Anecdote power pointAnecdote examplesAnecdote frameworkWednesday AM 3EnglishYear 6What do you want to achieve in Year 7?What do you want to achieve at secondary school as a whole? What advice would you have for a year 5 entering their final year at Cuckney?Year 5What do you want to achieve in Year 6?What do you want to achieve next year outside of school? What advice would you give to someone in Thoresby class that is entering Welbeck class for the first time in September?Next Year TemplateThere is a Y5 template and a Y6 templateWednesday PMTopicBig Welbeck Quiz of the Year – Round 1BWQOTY – Round 1 QuestionsThursday AMArithmetic 53Children are given 15 minutes to complete their Arithmetic sheet.Arithmetic 53Thursday AMMathsDividing decimals by 10, 100 and 1000(Support Videos: )Thursday AMEnglishAll About MeTask OneFollow the template to answer the following questions all about yourself, Year 6s this will be used for your personal page in your leaver’s book. The sections include:-Who is your best friend at school and why?Who are your other friends at school and why? What are your favourites?Quirky factsThe first section is 15 trophies – which o the trophies would you award to which year six children? If your child has a sibling in a younger year group, encourage them to do this challenge with them – letting the younger sibling solve the problem, but using their mathematical language to help guide them.Challenges 3, 4, 5 and 6 are suitable for Welbeck children to tackle independently.Challenges 7, 8, 9 and 10 are aimed at Secondary school children. If your child has a sibling at secondary school, encourage them to work together with the older child taking the ‘teacher’ role to help explain the problems to their Welbeck sibling.Obviously if you don’t have a sibling that fits into either category, aim to answer the first 6. Anything on top of that is a bonus!Family Maths ChallengeThe answers are also available at )Friday AMEnglishViews on our worldFor our final activity for our books this week, we’re going to have a think about the world we live in today, then look at some inspirational quotes.Which inspirational quote reaches out to you and why?Is there another quote you have picked up in life that you think has a really important meaning?I was once told “In life we learn from other people’s successes, we learn more from other people’s mistakes, but we learn the most from our own mistakes.”I try to remember this when things don’t go quite right – how could it be done better next time? Our world today templateInspirational quotes sheetFriday PMArt/Design/FilmComplete any artwork from this week not yet finished. ................
