Christian Spirituality and the

Enneagram Retreat

February 12, and 13, 2016 St. Paul's Cathedral Oklahoma City, OK

Sponsored by the Diocesan Commission on Spirituality

Led by: The Rev. Clyde Glandon

This is Charity; the immense expansion of personality effected by the love of God, weaving together the natural and the supernatural powers of the soul, and filling them with its abundant life.

Evelyn Underhill, The House of the Soul

The Rev. Dr. Clyde Glandon is the retired director for the Center for Counseling and Education in Tulsa, and a 1981 graduate of the School for Charismatic Spiritual Directors at the Benedictine Montestery in Pecos, NM.

Dr. Glandon will use a classic stream of Christian Prayer ? sacred imagination ? as a way to work with the Enneagram as Christian disciples. Retreat practices will include prayer practices familiar to participants in Retreat and Daily Life. The retreat will be an introduction to the Enneagram as it relates to our Christian vocations.

Find "a place in your heart" and go there to pray;

Seek the Risen Christ; and, Ask to discover God's gift of the Imago Dei,

the true self-knowledge.

Participants may wish to do some reading in the book, The Enneagram and Prayer, by Barbara Metz and John Burchill, before coming to the retreat, although it is not required.

The Enneagram is a personality typing system that consists of nine different types. Everyone is considered to be one single type, although one can have traits belonging to other ones.

The Enneagram is a useful tool for personal and collective transformation. Stemming from the Greek words ennea (nine) and grammos (a written symbol), the nine-pointed Enneagram symbol represents nine distinct strategies for relating to the self, others and the world. Each Enneagram type has a different pattern of thinking, feeling and acting that arises from a deeper inner motivation or worldview.

The Enneagram, like other paradigms, can foster greater understanding of self and others. Like the Myers Briggs Typology Indicator, it may be used to bring greater awareness of and integration of the powers of our human souls. Christians are invited to walk with Jesus the Teacher, and with companions, through the Enneagram's "rooms" of the human soul, and neighborhoods of the "human city."
