Appendix A – Systems Available in SAM Reset 15

Welcome to SAM Reset

SAM Reset is a tool to make your life at AAA Northern California Nevada and Utah simpler by helping you manage the password jungle. SAM provides four main benefits:

• Transparently synchronize your Windows password with passwords on many of AAA’s main business systems when you change your password from Windows CTRL-ALT-DEL.

• Convenient, secure self-service for resetting forgotten passwords.

• Convenient, secure self-service for unlocking accounts that have been locked due to forgotten passwords.

• Ability for help desk to verify identity of user on the phone.

Transparent password synchronization

For most people, most of the time, interaction with SAM Reset will be invisible. When you change your Windows password from the Windows password prompt, SAM will change your password on all the systems he manages in the background to match your Windows password. In order to accomplish this, the password rules for Windows have had some minor changes: most notably, your password must be exactly 8 characters. If you have difficulty setting your new password from Windows, you may find it helpful to go to the SAM Reset system where SAM will help you construct a compliant password.

Logging into SAM Reset

1) You can login to SAM Reset from the browser or desktop.

Open your browser and type in the address bar at the top of the screen. Click Go or press [Enter] on your keyboard.

Answer Personal Questions

The first time you visit SAM Reset, you must answer four pre-defined and two user-defined questions. These questions and answers will be saved in your personal profile. If you forget your password, the Help Desk Administrator will be able to verify your identity by asking you the pre-defined questions.

Pre-defined Questions:

Select four pre-defined questions from the Question list. The answer format requirement is displayed after each question. Enter your answer in the text box on the right.

Please note: The ITSC may ask you to provide the answer(s) to pre-defined questions. Be sure to select questions you’re comfortable answering over the phone.

You are required to create two user-defined questions. Enter you user-defined questions in the Question box. Enter your answer in the Answer box on the right. The minimum answer length is [5]. Main Menu

Once you have successfully completed the personal profile or answered the questions from the Challenge-response page correctly, the Main Menu page will appear. The Main Menu page will display all SAM Reset options available.

• Change passwords

• Unlock accounts

• Add login accounts

• Answer personal questions

Note: SAM Reset options are also displayed on the left navigate panel. The Training Document link is located at the bottom of the Main Menu page.

Change Passwords

To change your password, click on Change Password on the Main Menu page. The Change Password page contains password requirements, change and confirm password, and synchronize password for target accounts/systems available to you.

Very important: SAM allows you to reset passwords on systems separately, but it is not recommended to do that; you should change the password on all of the systems at the same time so that they have the same password!

Also very important: if you change your Windows password, and you did not reach SAM by logging into Windows as samreset, then after you finish with SAM Reset, you must lock your desktop (CTRL-ALT-DEL, Lock Desktop) then unlock it to synchronize your computer with the new network password, otherwise you will have trouble accessing network resources such as shared drives and Outlook.

Password Requirements:

Password examples and format requirements are displayed on the page. Please make sure that your new password meets these requirements.

You may not use any of the following reserved words in your password.

| Reserved Words |

|CSAA |FIN |

|WELCOME |FUC |

|ABCD |GIANT |

|ASDF |HELP |

|ACPT |IDEAL |

|AUTO |INSUR |

|CICS |ISPF |

A limited number of special characters can be allowed as part of your password. The reason is because the password requirement rules have been modified to allow for synchronization across multiple platforms. This means that SAM Reset passwords must be set to the "lowest common denominator" DOTS, which relies on a mature Top-Secret security package which only allows three special characters.

You may only use the following special characters:

|@ |

Enter your new password in the New Password box. Confirm your new password in the Confirm box. Select the applications to which the new password should be applied and Click [Change Passwords].
