Position: Trainee Organisation Development Worker

Salary: £20,808 per annum

Hours: 35 hours per week (flexi-time system). The role will include some occasional planned evening and weekend work for which time off in lieu will be available

Contract: Fixed term for 12 months from start date (continuation subject to business need and funding)

Reporting to: Capacity Building Manager

Main purpose of the post

Macc’s Capacity Building Team provides support to a range of local voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations, to help them become stronger, safer, more effective and more sustainable, contributing to improved outcomes for the people of Manchester. Our workers assess groups’ needs for support and provide with information, advice, guidance and training. This post is a trainee role develop your skills and knowledge, increasing the capacity of the team in offering support to diverse groups across the city.

Main Duties

Being Supportive

• Work with a range of VCSE groups including VCSE BAME organisations and other communities of place, identity or interest, meeting with individuals from VCSE groups to identify their support needs.

• Provide basic support including one-to-one advice and information on a range of topics which may include:

o governance roles and responsibilities

o choosing an appropriate structure

o developing a clear vision and strategy

o developing a business plan

o developing a funding strategy and apply for funding

o putting in place suitable policies and procedures

o ensuring good financial management and reporting

• Where relevant, arrange for support from a range of specialist sources

• Help to design and deliver learning sessions for the quarterly training programme

• Help match VCSE groups with relevant training opportunities

• Be understanding and adapt your approach to working with VCSE groups who face additional barriers in making progress

Being Co-operative

• Ensure partners, members, funders and other stakeholders are familiar with support offered by Macc and know how to access support or make referrals

• Attend a range of meetings and events as required to promote support services

• Contribute to the development of good practice within the Capacity Building Team

Being Influential

• Maintain an overview of issues arising from casework, including learning, opportunities and challenges identified by VCSE groups

• Maintain an overview of issues such as diversity, equalities, health, crime, education and the needs of unacknowledged and emerging communities

• Feed your intelligence and insights into team discussions for future planning

Monitoring and evaluation

• Keep records of support provided to VCSE groups, monitoring progress on our casework management system

• Contribute to maintaining an accurate database of contacts

• Ensure that the impact of the work is recorded and monitored and provide verbal and written reports as required

General

• To uphold and promote the purpose, beliefs and values of Macc

• To work collaboratively within the Macc team sharing general responsibility for

o Macc’s newsletters, bulletins, social media and online resources

o Macc’s contact & casework database

o The Voluntary Sector Assembly

o Macc’s annual Spirit of Manchester programme celebrating the local voluntary, community and social enterprise sector’s work in the city

o Responding to enquiries and administration

• To undertake learning and training as required: a full induction will be offered alongside training and development in a supportive team environment

• To work as a member of the Macc team and contribute to the development of policy and good practice within Macc

• To work in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR and Macc policies on Data Protection and Open Data

• To work in accordance with Macc’s Equality and Diversity policy and other relevant policies

• To be responsible for your own health & safety and that of colleagues, in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act

• To carry out the above duties, and any other reasonable duties commensurate with the responsibilities of the post
