EWI Chapter Connect

Letter from the President

Dear EWI of Oklahoma City,

Are you nurturing a supportive network that maximizes your potential? Or, are you still leaning on a network that unknowingly stunts your growth? Last month dynamic leader Linda Clark challenged us to not only think about how our network supports us, but also how we are supporting others.

When was the last time you reflected on your network? If it’s been 5 years or longer, it’s been too long. We are always growing and evolving, and your network should grow and evolve with you. One way you may notice this evolution taking place is by thinking of those who are no longer in your life and those who are more recent additions. To use a personal example, my network evolved radically throughout my twenties. I focused on spending time with ambitious, positive, intentional people who were moving the needle forward on their lives, and as a result most people I spent time with throughout high school diverged from my network. When you look around your circle and see the supportive network you trust, nourish it. Who within your network hasn’t received a call or visit from you in a while? Successful networks must work both ways.

Who within your network fulfills the 5 roles of TRUST?

• Transformative adventurer

• Resilience rising

• Unwavering support

• Success advocate

• Thoughtful soul

I hope you enjoy reflecting on Linda’s powerful presentation, and take great care of your network!

Christine Laird

A service of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Commute with Enterprise is one of our nation’s largest vanpool operations and a strategic transportation solution that offers immediate savings, safety and sustainability. It only takes four people who work the same hours and live in the same area to start an Enterprise vanpool. For an average commute of 80 miles per day, ridesharing can save individuals up to $8,700 per year by reducing the cost of tolls, gas, vehicle maintenance and depreciation. And, commuter vanpools not only diminish the stress of driving alone, but they are also the safest mode of public transportation when compared to motor bus, light rail, heavy rail, commuter rail and demand response services.  In addition, Commute with Enterprise manages vanpool programs help reduce carbon emissions, parking real estate and traffic congestion – including major bottlenecks and “hotspots” in metropolitan areas.  Our turn-key program includes recent-model seven-passenger SUVs (up to a 15-passenger van) and comes with insurance, maintenance and roadside assistance. Board Digest Oklahoma City Chapter: June 2019

The Board of Directors met on June 25, 2019 at the offices of Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens at 8701 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City OK 73162.

New Business

Christine Laird announced that Judie Harris has submitted her paperwork to Corporate which will her as a Sustaining Member beginning July 1, 2019. She has been actively assisting Frances Tuttle in identifying her replacement as the main Rep for EWI to allow them to continue their support as active members of the OKC Chapter of EWI through their renewal. Frances Tuttle is an active member through 2019.

• Website Management Update: Christine Laird reported that she met with Kara of Siren Media today and received the proposal for services that could potentially replace Levant going forward. Christine reviewed the details of the proposal with the board including the onboarding fees and monthly fees. After discussion from the board, it was decided that although the monthly fees were less than Levant’s fees, the onboarding expense was one that was not budgeted for in the 2018-2019 budget. Therefor the transition would be tabled until the 2019-2020 budget was voted on and we can allocate funds at that time to transition over to the new management system.

• Fundraising Update: Christine Laird gave the following grant update:

o Enterprise $1,500.00 check has been received

o OGE - $2,500 grant request is pending

• Texoma Board Forum: Christine Laird reported that the Texoma Board Forum is being held Aug 1-3 in Corpus Christi. Currently the OKC Chapter has 3 reps attending, Christine Laird, Michelle Ferguson, and Dana Nursick.

• June Program Summary: Jessica McCool reported that there were 34 in attendance at the June Program and requested any suggestions or feedback from the group as to how the meeting went. Comments and feedback were positive stating that the meeting was profitable and informative. It was noted that having meetings outside the regular 2nd Tuesday night of the month felt like it had been a while since we had met however it was also a chance to change things up. Overall, the outcome was a good review.
