Paraphrase the following sentence from the sixth paragraph on page one: “[Economic experts] fear that we are in the midst of not a cyclical downturn but a structural shift, one that poses huge new challenges to the average American job, pressures the average American wage and endangers the average American Dream.” (Consult Guidelines for Quoting, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing if you need to review paraphrasing techniques.)
2. In the section titled “Going Global” on page one, Zakaria discusses two elements shared by all successful corporations operating in the global economy. Briefly summarize the main points he makes about each of these two elements.

5. Define the terms “basket-case economies” and “banana republics” that appear in paragraph three, page two, and include the etymology of each term as well. If you need help, consult The Cambridge Dictionary Online and the Online Etymology Dictionary. (Note: The etymology of the first term will be for “basket case”)
6. Several paragraphs on page two contain direct and indirect quotes from experts as well as statistics. Quote one sentence containing a direct or indirect quote or a statistic that you think is especially effective, and explain the reason for your choice.

Summarize the information you learn from these segments, and discuss how it applies to one or more careers you are considering pursuing in the future.
