BRISTOL-PLYMOUTH REGIONAL TECHNICAL SCHOOLADMISSION POLICYPRACTICAL NURSE PROGRAMIntroduction:An admissions process is necessary in order to provide a fair, equitable, and organized entrance into the Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School Practical Nurse Program. Admission to the practical nurse program is selective and competitive. Prospective students are encouraged to attend an Information Session to ensure that they understand the requirements and expectations of the program. A specific maximum number of students will be admitted into the program to ensure that there will be space and resources to accommodate the needs and interests of all students. Applicants seeking accommodations should notify the Director of the Practical Nurse Program. Applicants may be asked to provide documentation from an appropriate professional (e.g., physician, psychologist, or other qualified diagnostician) to demonstrate their current disability and the need for accommodations. This documentation should (1) establish that the applicant has an impairment that substantially limits a major life activity, including supporting information (e.g., when and how the condition was identified, it’s likely duration); (2) describe in detail the applicant’s functional limitations created by the impairment; and (3) indicate accommodations are recommended for the applicant, along with explanations as to why they would be useful. Decisions about accommodations are made by the Director of the Practical Nurse Program, in consultation with the Section 504 Coordinator and Pupil Service Administrator as needed.Eligibility:Qualified applicants must be 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma or equivalency (GED/HiSET?). Foreign diplomas must be translated and certified as equivalent to a high school diploma. When candidates are equally qualified, residents of supporting member communities: (Berkley, Bridgewater, Dighton, Middleborough, Raynham, Taunton, Rehoboth) are given priority. Application Process:To be considered a candidate for admission to the Practical Nurse Program, all applicants must:Successfully complete the Reading, Math and English sections of the TEAS pre-entrance test. Candidates are allowed to test two times per enrollment period regardless of the testing facility. Test scores remain valid for two enrollment cycles. Minimum acceptable scores for Reading, Math, and English can be found on the school website under the Pre-Entrance Testing tab. Submit a completed application form with a non-refundable $35.00 processing fee. Incomplete applications are not processed. Applications can be picked up in the program office or downloaded from the website, . Submit an official high school transcript from a high school recognized by the Department of Education or proof of High School Equivalency Credential (G.E.D. or HiSET). Foreign diplomas must be translated to English and certified as equivalent to a U.S. high school education. Only official certification documents are accepted. Fees for credentialing are the responsibility of the candidate. Certified services for evaluation and translation include: Center for Educational Documentation, , North American Educational Group, , World Education Services, . Submit any post-secondary classes, courses taken. A candidate who previously attended a nursing program must submit an official transcript from the program. Submit two (2) professional references. All references must be completed on the Practical Nurse Program reference form included in this packet: at least one reference must be from a present/past employer. References from friends or family members are not considered in the admissions process. References should be sent to the program director, directly from the party providing the reference. Attend an interview with the director and/or faculty member of the Admissions Committee. Interviews will be scheduled once a completed application and passing TEAS scores are received. At the interview, candidates are required to submit a brief essay on a selected topic. The essay is evaluated for ability to address the topic, completeness, coherency, spelling, and grammar. Submit documentation of compliance with MA Dept. of Public Health Immunization requirements. An attachment outlining the Immunization Requirement and documentation form is included in the application packet.Additional requirements must be met:Satisfactory CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) as determined by the Superintendent.Physician/healthcare provider’s statement demonstrating the candidate’s health will enable her/him to function without limitation in the program.Proof of current health insurance to start and must be maintained for the duration of the program.Proof of CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers including infant, child, and adult CPR and AED training) throughout the program.Recruitment Process:Bristol-Plymouth disseminates information about the school through a variety of rmation is posted on the school website under the “Adult Programs” tab.An Open House is held annually in October. Submit the completed application form and application fee (cash, money order, debit and credit cards are accepted in person or by phone).All persons applying for admission must have completed the application requirements before they will be considered candidates. Applications are processed in the order received and qualified candidates are accepted on an ongoing basis until program capacity is met. Applications are valid for two (2) enrollment cycles.A completed application must include:The application to the Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School Practical Nurse Program with the $35.00 fee.Passing pre-entrance exam scores.Two (2) professional references completed on the Practical Nurse Program Reference form included in this packet: one reference must be from a present employer. Official transcript of high school education and post-secondary education (if applicable).Immunization documentation as determined by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.Selection Process:Qualified applications are reviewed by the Director/designated faculty and evaluated using the following criteria. Completed program application including the written response provided at interview.Review of the 2 professional references.Proof of high school graduation or equivalency. Attainment of required TEAS scores.Proof of Immunization compliance.Review of post-secondary transcripts.Candidates are ranked and accepted according to the procedures and criteria contained herein up until 3 weeks before the program begins. Admission decisions are mailed to the candidate on an ongoing basis. A wait list of acceptable candidates is maintained once the roster is full or the admissions deadline is reached. The wait list is valid for the next program year. The top ten (10) percent of the wait list is offered admission to the next program. The remainder of the wait list candidates will be reviewed with new applications for the next admission cycle. ................
