The aim of the project, entitled SPOWTT (Safety and Productivity in Offshore Wind Technician Transit), is to optimise the use of Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) and improve the safety and productivity of technicians carrying out service activities on Offshore Wind turbines. The post holder will be based within Psychology, School of Life Sciences, and will principally join the academic community in this active research department. The post holder will also benefit from integrating with the Risk Institute and the university’s growing multidisciplinary research teams working in Offshore Wind. Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the postThe successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr Fiona Earle to explore the psychological and physiological impact of CTV transit and develop an understanding of the wide ranging implications of this marine transit process for technician health, well being and work. The successful candidate will work within, and contribute to, a wide multidisciplinary and multisite project team. Project partners are based within UK and Dutch research institutions as well as industrial partners, including Siemens. The main duties will include data collection and analysis, preparation of preliminary reports of findings, and contributions to dissemination via papers and conference presentations.GENERIC JOB DESCRIPTIONThe job duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of the role. The research assistant will receive close supervision and direction from more senior colleagues and will receive academic, pastoral support and guidance which may include specific training, career counselling and mentoring.The main focus of the work will involve the generation or collection of data using standard methods which have been developed by others.
