What will students be able to think, know, do, or feel because of a given educational experience in a course or a program?Business Administration Certificate of AchievementThis certificate is designed to provide the opportunity for the transfer business major to achieve an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree. Which ISLO is outcome linked to?Certificate of AchievementUpon successful completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Business Administration, graduates will be able to: Function effectively in entry-level business positions or at a four-year college business program using the skills, principles, and tools they have acquired.Effectively apply and utilize the business principles and techniques they have learned in a business environment or at a four-year college business program.Demonstrate effective written and/or oral skills. What are the specific assessment tools that will establish the degree & extent of what is to be achieved? What is the criterion for success?Means of assessment:A combination of direct and indirect assessment measures will be utilized whereby student achievement of each PSLO is assessed (directly) by instructors’ observations and (indirectly) by student self-assessments. At the completion of the certificates of achievement, all applicants must have completed all required coursework with a grade of C or better and will also be asked to complete a self-assessment (attitudinal survey/questionnaire). All students in most courses will be required to present cases and/or projects demonstrating the application of the knowledge acquired.Criteria for success: The benchmarks the program sets for the outcome and against which the outcomes’ performance is judged by the faculty within the department are as follows:On a graduation questionnaire, 75% of students will indicate they “agree” or “strongly agree” that they feel more confident in their ability to function effectively in an entry-level positions in my field using the skills and knowledge I have acquired.75% of students completing the CA program will indicate they “agree” or “strongly agree” on an attitudinal survey/questionnaire (graduation questionnaire) that they feel confident in their ability to apply their acquired knowledge and skills. And in most courses, students will have been required to present cases and projects demonstrating their ability to apply what they have earned.75% of students will indicate on a graduation questionnaire that they “agree” or “strongly agree” that they feel more confident in their ability to communicate effectively. Summarize findings vis-à-vis outcomes, means of assessment, & criteria for success. Include your process for determining who participated in the assessment and the sample size. What do the data tell us about your process in terms of goals, outcomes, and means of assessment, defined criteria for success, implementation process, and data collection? All students (100%) requesting and applying for a certificate of achievement in Business Administration were asked to complete the required self-assessment instrument. After multiple attempts, 6 of 9 graduating students replied to the survey. Data were collected and compiled by Charles R. Zellerbach, the lead for the program. At the time of the assessment, 9 students had applied for the certificates of achievement in Business Administration for Spring 2011. The results of the assessment for the certificate of achievement in Business Administration was as follows:On the graduation questionnaire, 100% of students surveyed indicated they felt confident in their ability to function effectively in entry –level business positions using the skills and knowledge they had acquired. On the graduation questionnaire, 100% of students indicated they felt confident in their ability to effectively utilize the principles and techniques they had learned. On the graduation questionnaire, 66.7% of students surveyed indicated they felt more confident in their ability to communicate effectively and persuasively. What do the data tell us about program improvement:What, if anything, do we need to do at the program or course level to improve student learning or service? What resources are necessary?100% of students achieved PSLO #1, which exceeds the goal set of at least 75% attainment.100% of students achieved PSLO # 2, which exceeds the goal set of at least 75% attainment.66.7% of students achieved PSLO # 3, which falls below the goal set of at least 75% attainment. The division has recently reviewed the rates of success for the three PSLO’s creating a three tiered category matrix. In addition, the results of the survey have low statistical reliability given the low response. We need to reevaluate how we handle the survey process to insure a better response. We will plan on meeting this fall to discuss potential strategies and action plans.SLO #1Upon successful completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Business Administration, graduates will be able to: Function effectively in entry-level business positions or at a four-year college business program using the skills, principles, and tools they have acquired.SLO #2Upon successful completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Business Administration, graduates will be able to: Effectively apply and utilize the business principles and techniques they have learned in a business environment or at a four-year college business program.SLO #3Upon successful completion of the Certificate of Achievement in Business Administration, graduates will be able to: Demonstrate effective written and/or oral skills. ................
