What is a Solstice?

The term solstice is used to describe the exact moment when the sun reaches its northernmost point or southernmost point from the earth's equator.

This usually happens around June 21st (northern point) and December 21st (southern most point).

Solstice

These two times in the year, are the summer solstice and the winter solstice,

The sun reaches its highest (summer) or lowest point (winter) in the sky at noon, marked by the longest and shortest days.
