TEAM PRESENTATION CRITERIA

Select the subject you would like to present and sign up for it in class.

General Information:

• Students will work in teams of two to four people.

• Each presentation must have a visual aid, handout, and images.

• Everyone on the team will receive the same grade.

• Only one team can present per topic.

Meet with team members, lay out your initial timeline, and assign duties to each team member. Each team member must sign agreement. Submit a copy to instructor and a copy to each team member.

NOTE: There will be no re-assignment once teams are established.

Expectations:

• This is a team presentation, and as such, everyone must participate equally.

• Team presentation will be 20 minutes long.

• Practice your presentation! IF you go over 20 minutes, you will lose points.

• Each member will be expected to present to the class. Each member will present for approximately the same length of time.

• A complete and thorough presentation will include:

o Handouts for classmates (examples: brochure, outline, copy of power point)

o Visual aides (power point, posters, specialized equipment)

o Appropriate radiographs or other images

o Submit an electronic copy of the visual aid to the instructor on the day of the presentation.

o Comprehensive coverage of your subject matter. A top score will be earned when you have covered the material so thoroughly that you can answer any questions your evaluators pose to your team. Use the guidelines listed below.

o Be creative! You and your team are invited to use some artistic license and make your presentation as fun and interactive as you like!

• An outline of the speech must be given to the instructor before speaking.

o Submit outline to instructor by September 23, 2009.

o The speech evaluation the instructor will use to grade the speech will be reviewed with the class before presentations.

• Everyone on the team will receive the same grade.

• Presentation dates will be assigned at a later date. Your presentation date cannot be changed except for unforeseen circumstances (inclement weather, class runs over).

• Sign-up sheets will be in class. Please make your choice by August 31.

*Select a minimum of two exams to present.

Urinary System*

Retrograde Pyelography

Cystograms/Voiding Cystography

Male/Female Cystourethrography

*Select two exams to present

Arthrography*

Knee

Hip

TMJ

Wrist

*This is one type of procedure; cover the special factors of each exam.

Myelography

Includes lumbar punctures

Each special Diagnostic Radiographic procedure will include:

1. Definition of the procedure.

2. Reasons a doctor would order this procedure—symptoms, diseases involved, etc.

3. Patient pre-exam preparations and post exam care

a. Include any preps, changes to medication regimen prior to procedure, etc.

b. Informed Consent required? Time out? 5R’s? Discharge instructions? Driver needed?

4. Patient care involved during the procedure—conscious sedation? General anesthesia? Etc.

5. Equipment necessary—sterile trays, contrast, radiographic equipment, other medical supplies

6. Description of the procedure. Include variations on the standard procedure.

7. Radiographs taken. Include radiographic techniques used and why.

8. Radiographer’s role in the procedure.

Advanced Imaging Modalities:

Cardiac Catheterization Nuclear Medicine

CT PET/SPECT

Bone Densitometry (DXA) Radiation Therapy

Interventional Ultrasound

Mammography Venography/NIVA (compare/

MRI contrast)

Each advanced imaging presentation should include:

1. A definition of the technology.

2. Discussion of the most common diagnostic/therapeutic uses of the technology.

3. Compare and contrast the diagnostic/therapeutic advantage of the technology over conventional radiography.

4. The basic technical concepts behind the modality.

5. A discussion of the necessary equipment.

a. Have there been innovations in equipment just for this modality? i.e. Seldinger technique.

6. Patient care specific to the modality.

7. Identify the education/certification for technologists in the specialty.

8. Discuss future advances.
