FREE ESL/ESOL Classes

Westchester Community College (WCC) English Language Institute

WCC offers off-campus English as a Second Language programs for adults. Four levels of beginner ESL classes are offered each season including instruction and practice in all English language skills: listening, speaking, standard grammar, reading, and writing.

Instruction is free, but students must purchase textbooks (about $35). At registration, students are evaluated to determine the level at which they begin study. For more information call WCC at (914) 606-6607.

SUNY Educational Opportunity Center (EOC)

Funded by SUNY and administered by Westchester Community College, the EOC offers a free two-level ESOL program providing basic English literacy skills to non-native adults in addition to cultural information they need to manage everyday life situations. Pre-TASC/GED and TASC/GED instruction is also offered.

Criteria for Enrollment: Ability to read/write in the native language; limited English proficiency; minimum score 25 on BEST Test and 5 on NYS Placement Test.
