The girls will learn a cheer (most likely the camp cheer, if not then they will learn two sidelines). We will place the girls into groups if we need to see stunting abilities. They will have an opportunity to warm up tumbling and jumps as well. At the end of an hour, we will put the girls in pairs to have them come in and tryout. Just like last year, we will be bringing in outside judges. Girls will be brought in one by one after the coaches review score sheets & talk to the judges & be told if they made a team. Varsity & JV parent meeting will be at approximately 7:15pm the day of tryouts. Both teams will hold a short practices after tryouts while we wait for the parents to arrive. A $287.00 will be due at this meeting to cover the cost of camp.Modified: Tryouts for Modified will be held over the course of TWO DAYS (August 20th & 21st). The tryout process will last approximately 2 hours each day. On the first day, a dance and sideline cheer will be taught. We will also work on jumps and there will be the opportunity to throw tumbling skills on the dead mat. On the second day of tryouts we will spend some time to review the dance and sideline cheer as well as, warm up tumbling and jumps. After that, the students will be split up into groups of three to four to tryout in front of the judging panel. The judging criteria is posted on the Lancaster athletics website under cheerleading. After all students have performed in front of the judging panel, the judging panel will calculate the final scores and deliberate. The students will then be called in one at a time to find out whether or not they made the team. If they have made the team the first practice will be on Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 5-7pm with a parent meeting immediately following practice. Camp payment of $180.00 is due at the meeting.Picking of TeamsVarsity: Varsity is looking for strong motions, proper execution of jumps (height, pointed toes, proper approach & arm placement), correct stunting technique (this will be observed over summer workouts), and ability to perform.
