Employee Self Service (ESS) Instructions
Employee Self Service (ESS) Instructions
The Employee Self Service site is the entryway to all personal information for users. The opportunity to view and print paystubs and W-2s is just the beginning. There are many updates a user can make, including changes to direct deposit information, W-4 exemptions, and personal information. The viewing capabilities take it a step further with displays of benefit enrollment and ethnic group. This instructional document is provided to elaborate on various tools within the ESS application. There are also other informational documents available via the hyperlinks in the "Helpful Links" box at the bottom of the login page.

Password Because ESS provides access to information like your bank information for direct deposit,
it is important that you do not share your ESS password or allow your browser to save your ESS password for you. Passwords expire every 90 days. Password requirements, such as the number of characters or required characters, are displayed on the Change Password screen. Security Responses for Forgotten Password You will be required create a new password and enter answers to the three security questions the first time you log in and any time the Service Desk manually resets your password. Please make entries in all six fields and then click the Submit Change button.
Note: The location of the Submit Change button may vary depending on the size of your screen.

The system-generated password will appear on the screen after you answer your three security questions correctly.
? You should write down the auto-generated password exactly as shown and type it into the password field rather than using copy and paste.
? If you use copy/paste to transfer the temporary password to the login screen, be aware that an extra space may be included at the end of the copied text; you must remove any extra space from the end before the pasted password can be accepted. You can count the dots in the password field to verify the number of dots equals the number of characters in the temporary password. Some browsers display an eye icon in the password field; if present, you can click that icon to peek at the password entry. If you are unable to log in, the Service Desk can manually reset your password. Contact them at ServiceDesk@metc.state.mn.us or 651-602-1498. They will need to know your employee ID (badge number).
