Writing the Rough Draft Guidelines

Organizing Tip: Before having the rough draft of your essay peer evaluated, please take out the following assignments and make sure they are completed. Remember, you will not receive credit for your rough draft unless all or the following assignments are completed:

❑ Prewriting, Step 1: Choosing your topic

❑ Prewriting, Step 2: Brainstorming your topic and writing a 100                                   word reflective response about transcendentalism

❑ Prewriting, Step 3: Brainstorming your thesis

❑ Outline Quiz: Use this to make sure your outline is complete and                           to write parts of your intro and conclusion.

❑ Formal Outline: Planning your writing

Note: For the outline, each part of the body paragraphs must be clearly labeled as follows.

Reminder: Before having the rough draft of your essay peer evaluated, closely read the rubric for the essay, and check off the boxes on the left as you complete each step.

➢ Remember: Your body paragraphs must follow the S.E.E. method of writing, and each paragraph for your rough draft must be at least 11 sentences long.

o 1 Statement based on the structure of your thesis

o 2 Examples directly cited examples of at least two sentences each

o 3 Explanation sentences evaluating how each example proves the statement

Rough Draft Bullet Guidelines:

❑ Minimum 6 Paragraphs in Length

❑ Minimum of 11 Sentences per Paragraph

❑ MLA Format, Word Processed
