St John’s Ev. Lutheran Church and School475 E. Herbert Ave. Salt Lake City, Utah 84110Web Address: Pastor Hank Malone 385-234-1931 HYPERLINK "mailto:rev.dr.hankmalone@" rev.dr.hankmalone@Phone Worship Service Sunday 9:55 AM 605-313-4812 group code 2525#Since the number of new cases keep going up each day, we will have phone services only on the non-communion Sundays (1st, 3rd, & 5th Sundays of the month). Depending on the number of new cases of the coronavirus, our communion service will be scheduled on the Friday of that week on a case by case basis. Please bear with my cautious approach. Our phone worship service is available for you and your family and friends joining us by using 605-313-4812 and giving access code 2525# when prompted. Due to the background noise introduced by numerous phones being connected and each having some noise or generating noise in each location, like heavy breathing or dog barking, etc., -- We must ask you to mute your end of the call or cover the mike portion of the phone while you join the responsive liturgy and singing in our service. Heavy breathing and other noises make it very difficult for you and others to hear and worship. There is a lag time of about 1.5 seconds between when you hear and when you are to respond making unison response worship difficult at best. In your worship response use the printed responses as listed in the bulletin and printed prayers of the service, but at the same time be muted or cover the phone speaker . You should sing to the music, but do not unmute. Worship is not worship unless you are involved in the worship acts. Do sing along, pray along, and respond, but your phone needs to be on mute or the mike covered. Hear and be part. In these times of isolation, we give thanks to our God who tells us He will never leave us or forsake us. We may not be able to understand the why, but we know that God is in our midst working to sustain us and turn this evil to our good. His word is never broken, and His love for us assures us of victory over all that would destroy body and soul. We are with Him and He continues to gift us with life, body, soul, family, friends and our church family. We have much to be thankful for. Because of the resurrection of our Lord, we need never fear our future. We can do all things through Him who strengthens and loves us. Take a deep breath and step back mentally and emotionally from our circumstances as we respond to the challenges of life. Our moments of anger are often prompted by our circumstances. Breathing through a mask and social distancing are but a few more irritants, challenges that we have to learn to live with. Please cherish your life and the gift of family and friends. Find your peace in Jesus Christ.Procedures and Routine for Worship in Church @ St. John’sDownstairs Fellowship Hall, Restrooms and All School Classrooms are off Limits! If you plan to commune, I would like you to announce your intention by email, text or phone. And behold, the Word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah? 10He said, “I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, thrown down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.” 11 And He said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. 13And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 14He said, “I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, thrown down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.” 15And the LORD said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus. And when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael to be king over Syria. 16And Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel, and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place. 17And the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael shall Jehu put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha put to death. Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.” 19 So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him. 20 And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Let me kiss my father and mother, and then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?” 21And he returned from following him and took the yoke of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the yokes of the oxen and gave it to the people, and they ate. The he arose and went after Elijah and assisted him.P: This is the word of the LordC: Thanks be to GodGRADUAL: Ps. 145:3, 5b, 6b)Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom.I will meditate on Your wonderful works,And I will proclaim Your great deedsSECOND READING: 1 Peter 3:8-158Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. 9Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. 10For whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; 11 let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. 12For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil. 13Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? 14But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 15but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,P: This is the word of the Lord.C: Thanks be to GodALLELUIA AND VERSE: (Rom 6:9, John 14:23)C: Alleluia. And He sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4”And when He had finished speaking He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at Your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. 7They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” 9For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon. Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men. 11And when they brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him.P: This is the Gospel of the LordC: Praise to You, O Christ.Creedal Hymn: LSB 940 “Holy God We Praise Thy Name” Holy God, we praise Thy Name; Lord of all, we bow before Thee.
