Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues of Technology in Classrooms

• What are human issues of technology in classroom?

There are many issues that are affected by technology in the classroom. Beginning with human issues of technology in the classroom we learn that the “human” is being taken out and the technology is moving in. Today, students are bored with the everyday teacher standing up in front of a classroom and just talking. They are used to Wii’s, Xboxes, PSP’s, PS3’s, Nintendo’s, and Playstation’s to entertain them. The technology industry understands this, and to convince parents to use technology, they have developed educational games to enhance learning and interactive games for weight loss.

So what’s the problem? Why are educators wanting technology limited and the young people wanting more technology? Teachers and educators do understand how technology is a necessity in school. But they are worried that students will not be able to function in a real world because they have never had to learn using paper and pencil and basic brain functions. Now young people want more. They don’t want to sit at a desk with paper and pencil and have to learn how to divide. They want a laptop in front of them, playing some kind of video that teaches them how to divide and then they want to type a numbers into the computer and it will solve the problem for them. Who needs to memorize multiplication, when you have a computer, calculator, or cell phone to do it for you?

So the human issues of technology will continue due to the uprising of technology. Schools will continue to update their technology in the classroom, until finally every student and every school in the United States will have some kind of major technology to use.

• What are social issues of technology in classroom?

Today parents want to know how can schools ensure that technology will make students achieve their goals in school. They want to know or make sure that students are being safe on the computer or Internet and that what they are doing is beneficial for their future. Even teachers want to make sure that the technology used in the classroom will have a positive impact on their students and their achievements. What parents have to understand is that just asking questions and judging will not get them answers. Parents need to research the technology that is being used. They can volunteer their time in the school to see for themselves that teachers and students are using technology in a positive way.

• What are ethical issues of technology in classroom?

Parents are always worried about ethical issues in the classroom. The best way to make sure that there are no ethical issues happening, teachers should do the following:

1. model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.

2. apply technology resources to enable and empower learner with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.

3. identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity

4. promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.

5. facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all.

By following these guidelines, parents and teachers can rest assure that ethical issues are not a problem.

• What are legal issues of technology in classroom?

Right now, legal issues are an issue. Today students are so smart that they will find the easy way out. They will plagiarize, copyright, take intellectual property, and pirate copies of things. Even teachers don’t realize that downloading a song off the computer and not paying for it is piracy. So to keep the students safe and the teacher safe, students need to make sure that they follow all the laws. Today, technology is so advanced, that programs like are developed for teachers to check student’s work. Having student’s be accountable for the choices they make will teach them valuable lessons that they will take with them for life.
