Happy Feast of St. Francis of Assisi – Lover of all Creation

[pic]

FROM FR. DAN’S DESK…

This Sunday at 12:30, we celebrate our annual “BLESSING OF PETS” on the front lawn of our church. Pets of all sizes, varieties and species, are welcome, along with their families to receive a special blessing in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi – Patron of animals and pets. You are asked to have pets on a leash, or otherwise contained for their safety. There will be a “Memorial Table” for anyone who would like to bring a framed picture of a pet who has passed, to be remembered. God bless these very special and cherished members of our families!

Last Saturday I took part in the First Annual “Walk For Life” in Agawam, sponsored by the Pro-Life Commission of St. John the Evangelist Church in Agawam. It was a beautiful day at a beautiful location – School Street Park in Agawam. We registered a “team” from our parish, and I was happy to be accompanied by Rosemary and Kayla Thresher, as well as the Sabat Family from our parish. This Walk will surely grow in the years to come as the only Walk for Life in our Diocese! I would like to work with the Pro-Life Commission of St. John’s since they are a parish in our “Deanery”, to help plan and grow the Walk for next year. I will be going to a planning meeting this Tuesday October 8 at St. John’s with a few members of our parish who are interested in helping plan the Walk for next year! We must continue to hold the ethic of the right to life of all children before that right is permanently taken away! If you would like to be part of beginning a “Pro-Life Commission” here in our parish, please contact me!

Please join us next Saturday at the 4:00pm Mass for a special Celebration of Mass in Honor of the 10th Anniversary of the Dedication of our New Church! I am happy to welcome our Retired Bishop Emeritus – Timothy McDonnell, who Dedicated our Church 10 years ago, as our Celebrant and Homilist. Following the 4:00pm Mass we will have a Potluck Supper in our Parish Center. Whether you can make a dish or not, for the Potluck Supper, I hope you will join us for this wonderful shared meal together! For the purposes of having enough tables and chairs set up – we do need to know if you are coming to the Potluck, even if you are not able to make a dish. So if you have not filled out a form indicating you are coming (near the bulletins), please call the Parish Office by Tuesday of this week to RSVP – thank you!

This past Summer, we have had some very successful “Family Nights” on Friday evenings – families coming together to have a light meal, for games or activities, and to spend some enjoyable time together. So beginning next Sunday, each month, on the second Sunday evening of the Month – after XLT Adoration, we will offer families a light dinner at the Parish Center and a family-oriented program. Next Sunday, we have the first of our “Sunday Night Family Nights”, with dinner and an activity, beginning at 6:00PM right after XLT Adoration. Please join us!

God Bless, Fr. Dan

Parents are always welcome to accompany their children! This is a wonderful way they can participate at Mass and release some energy, before returning for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We welcome older children/siblings or those who have volunteered at Vacation Bible Experience, to join us for Children’s Liturgy and help the children by joining in on the song.
