In Cold Blood Synthesis Essay

In Cold Blood

Synthesis Essay

Overview

One of our focuses for this unit is the study of source-based essays (or synthesis essays for the AP test).

Therefore, for your final essay, you must find five articles from a variety of sources (magazines, journals, newspapers, books) and two visual sources (editorial cartoon, graph, chart, table) that are related to a current issue. Articles should be no more than one page in length. If you find a longer article, then pull an excerpt that equals one page. You will be expected to read, highlight, and annotate each article.

You must then write a synthesis essay in which you develop a position and evaluate potential outcomes. Use the research to support your own argument, not merely summarize the arguments of other writers. Consider using the sample synthesis essay I gave you as an example of how I expect the prompt worded and the articles organized.

You must submit:

A prompt

Copies of your annotated sources

A typed essay (1000-1500 words)
