Current Event Outline

Students in Mr. Wiesenthal’s Social Studies class this year will be participating in a year long current event project. This is designed so that all students get a chance to look at various current event issues that are affecting the world that we live in. The students will then have a chance to report on the article.

Heading- Each current event summary must follow this heading and it can be found on each students Google Classroom account

Date of Article- 9/2/17

Summary- This part should consist of a brief summary of the article and the student’s opinion of the article and why they feel the way they do.

The Current event Assignment

Once a current event is assigned, the student will have 2 week to hand in the completed assignment. Each student has the opportunity to hand in his or her current event before the due date if they choose to do so. For example, if the student decides to write the current event over the weekend, he or she can hand it in at any time during the week and avoid waiting until the last possible day to hand it in.

Students must use Canvas to complete and submit their assignments. If at any time the student has a question or needs access to a computer in school, he or she must see Mr. Wiesenthal as soon as possible. Since each student has 2 weeks to complete the current event, no late assignments will be accepted.

There are a variety of sources that students can use to locate their articles. The most convenient sources are websites. Some suggestions include; , & but any trustworthy news source is acceptable. If the student decides to use a hard copy news source (newspaper/ magazine), they must turn the article into Mr. Wiesenthal. Lastly, the article used must be a World Article (involve a world issue).
