BTEC Case Study – Forensic Psychology

Three males have been found poisoned across the borough of Ealing; all three males were from professional backgrounds and ranged from between 29-33 yeas of age.

1. James Morden 32 years of Age

Mr Morden was a self employed accountant with an office in Greenford. He was regarded as a physically fit, well presented individual with an interest in the arts. Pathology reports that the cause of death was from a single puncture mark from a syringe to the back of the neck. Further toxicological analysis resulted in finding traces of arsenic in the victim’s bloodstream.

The victims possessions all seem to be accounted for, no evidence of a struggle with the victim or forced entry to his property were visible.

2. Robert Martins 29 years of Age

Mr Martins had recently moved to the area from Manchester after taking up a position with GSK. His body was discovered by his cleaner and appeared to have been laying on the bed at his west Ealing flat for just over 24hrs.

At the crime scene Mr Martins was found with his shirt removed, this was recovered later from his bathroom. There were no puncture marks to the body but toxicological reports found traces of arsenic in his blood, tests on surrounding materials also concluded that the poison was in a wine glass on the table. Two glasses and an empty wine bottle were located.

3. Martin Edwards 33 years old

Mr Edwards worked in the financial centre of London as a consultant for HSBC. As with the previous victims he was described by friends as a charming individual and had recently separated from his long term girlfriend of 4 years. His body was found on the sofa of his Ealing Broadway apartment with no apparent signs of struggle or forced entry to the property.

Pathology reports located a puncture mark, suggestive of a hypodermic syringe, to the upper left thigh. The crime scene indicated that there had been two people at the flat having a meal.
