Personal Brochure Project

Personal Brochure Project

English 8 – Mr. Cook

At the beginning of the school year, it is fun for me to get to know the real YOU as well as give you an opportunity to find out about yourself more deeply. For these purposes, you will be creating a professional looking brochure in which you will describe yourself through a variety of pictures, illustrations, and writing. Choose 7 topics below to create mini-paragraphs that best portray you up to this point in your life. All text must be typed (yes, the font will be small), and quality will definitely count! Along with photos of yourself, you may also want to include those of your family, friends, pets, etc. You can also include original drawings, magazine clippings, internet art, and any other medium you choose in order to make your brochure creative, eye-catching, and original. Talk to friends and family members to gather even more information and ideas about what you are like. Note: If you want, you may mix and match the suggestions below and even come up with some of your own categories to create a truly unique and individual brochure.

This project will be due in 2 weeks: September 9, 2016

1. WHO AM I? – Briefly describe yourself. List the basic facts of your life such as: age, siblings, pets, physical description, birthday, place of birth, and where you have lived. Who are you? What is your personality like? What are your interests and hobbies? What is most important to you in life and WHY? Consider the things that make you unique.

2. MUSICAL/POETIC INFLUENCES – Explain how music influences or shapes your life? Include lyrics, backgrounds, and stories surrounding your most influential musical artists.

3. AUTHOR INFLUENCES – Which writers have shaped your life so far? Include segments of their writing that have most impacted you. Considering that these people might also be historical figures, which people in history may have already shaped or influenced your life? Most importantly, you should actually type lines or text from the speech or the book to which you are referring within this paragraph.

4. LITTLE KNOWN FACTS – Reveal facts or details about your life that most people don’t know. These should be facts you don’t mind sharing with me. These might include places you’ve lived, awards you have received, famous people you have met, languages you speak, special skill or talents you possess, or unusual events in your life.

5. IF I WERE IN CHARGE – If you could create your idea of a “perfect world,” what would it look like? What would you change about the present world? You might include the laws and frameworks of your new society.

6. MY FUTURE GOALS – What are your goals for the near and distant future? How do you plan to accomplish them? What do you most want to do with your life? What are your dreams? How do you want people to perceive you as an adult?

7. THE EARLY YEARS – Describe what you were like as a baby, a toddler, a young child? When and where were you born? Share your first memory of school. What was your favorite subject and why? What did you do in your free time after school, on weekends, in the summer? What major changes have occurred while growing up? For this topic, you may wish to recall the details about one particular time or place in your childhood that stands out most in your memory. Consider “showing” rather than “telling” about the experience.

8. HEROES OR HEROINES – Choose two individuals that you admire most? You might highlight a family member, a famous person, an historical figure, a fictional character, a friend, a teacher, or anyone else. Include details and examples to support your choices.

9. GREATEST BOOK/MOVIE – Select a book or a film that has made an impact on you so far in your life. Be prepared to explain what it is about this book or movie that has captivated and influenced you. It would be GREAT to see actual quotes from the book or movie as well.

10. MY BELIEFS – What beliefs are most important to you? These may be personal beliefs, values, rules about life, religious views, lessons you have learned, etc. Do you have a personal philosophy about life in general?

11. CRAZIEST TRIP OF ALL TIME – This might be “crazy” in the sense that everything seemed to go wrong or “crazy” in the sense that it was an amazing and incredible journey. Where did you go, what did you see, and who did you meet? Use sensory imagery to describe the event. How did this trip change you?

12. MY FAMILY – Describe the members of your family. What make your family unique? What do you love about them? What is your favorite time spent with your family? How does your family shape or influence your life?

13. NEW REALITY SHOW – If you could create a new reality show, what would it be? Where would it take place? What would the contestants have to do, and what would be their ultimate prize?

14. ALL MY FAVORITES – What do you just love? Consider the following list of favorites: activity, sport, dessert, holiday, musical group, friend, movie, quotation, television show, hang-out, person, restaurant, month, season, singer, star, school subject, song, etc. In your life, what really makes you smile?

15. 8th GRADE JITTERS – What totally freaks you out about the 8th grade? What are you worried about? What concerns you? What nightmarish rumors have you heard? What do you hope 8th grade will be like and how do you hope to succeed, much less survive it?

16. PRIDE IN ME – What have you accomplished in your life thus far that makes you proud? Perhaps you have improved in a subject or found the courage to do something you were hesitant to do before. Perhaps you have mastered a skill, a talent, or won an award. What makes you stand out from the crowd, and what did you learn through these accomplishments?

17. CREATE YOUR OWN CATEGORY – Come up with your own section!
