While each of the theorists has focused on one aspect of learning, as an applied behavioral scientist your practitioner role requires that you implement concepts and principles from all of the theories in an optimal manner. Each of the following questions requires that you compare and contrast two theories (i.e., describe each theory and state how they are both alike and different) and provide examples of how both theories can be used to make decisions regarding classroom practice.

Compare and contrast the information processing and Piaget's cognitive-developmental approaches to learning. Discuss why these two theories form the foundation for the "constructivist" approach to teaching and learning. Explain how metacognition plays a vital role in the cognitive psychologists' views. In the discussion provide specific examples of how these theories can aid classroom instruction and assessment to improve student learning.
Compare and contrast Skinner's operant conditioning theory and Piaget's cognitive-development theory in terms of their basic assumptions and principles of learning. Describe how knowing these two theories can assist educators in making instructional and assessment decisions, especially in the area of metacognition. Provide at least two specific recommendations for both classroom instruction and assessment.
