Examples: Behaviors that demonstrate classroom expectations within the routine (e.g., listed on the classroom matrix):Actively listen to the teacherRaise hand to share ideasTake notes on contentParticipate in choral responseAsk questions for clarificationStay in seat with “6 feet on the floor”Keep hands, feet, and materials to selfNon-Examples:Staring out the window or doodling (appearing to not be listening)Calling out (not raising hand to share an idea)Not getting materials out to take notesHaving a question, but not askingTipping in chairSpreading materials beyond designated spaceTeaching PlanPresentation: The teacher will review the expectations with the group, define them, and discuss the rationale. Teacher will then discuss and model non-examples of behavior for whole group instruction (calling out without raising hand, no materials out for taking notes, not responding during choral response, tipping in chair and spreading out materials beyond the designated space). Then the teacher will demonstrate and discuss the desired behaviors (listed above).Practice: The teacher will immediately follow the presentation with an opportunity for students to practice the expected behaviors. Teacher will acknowledge the expected behaviors during the whole group instruction that follows.Reinforcement: Teacher will provide specific verbal praise to students after the practice session based on the expectations.Follow-up plan: For the first week of whole group instruction, the expectations will be briefly reviewed prior to starting the lesson. After the first week, the expectations or the full lesson may be done following extended breaks or as needed based on behavior.Michigan’s Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative (MIBLSI) is a Grant Funded Initiative (GFI) funded under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) throughthe Michigan Department of Education. ................
